I discovered this podcast in a best of 2019 list and I’m so glad! Excellent presentation and interesting topic, with extra episodes about historic crimes that inspired the detective fiction writers of the golden age.

More a casual fan of the subject matter, but after listening to this series, I’m definitely reading more of them. Brilliantly done

Golden age of crime
Well researched and really interesting pod cast. If you like crime literature and/or true crime, this pod cast is for you.

Excellent
A very well made podcast all round. It has the feel of a golden age crime fiction story with music of the period. Very in depth episodes adding information about the authors I didn’t know before.

Like, like, like!
Not for everyone but, if you are a fan of classic murder mysteries then you will enjoy this.

Totally addict
I have long been a fan of golden age detective fiction and this podcast allows me to wallow in the genre just as I did in the bath with an Agatha Christie when I was 14 many years ago!

Highly recommended listening.
This is a small sparkling gem of a show, with a knowledgeable and extremely well-read presenter speaking in a precise and clear way about a subject they clearly have passion for.
Its length makes this a perfect “small bite” amongst other much longer podcasts, its content is interesting (and leads to regular “off-piste” investigation!), and the topics are always well chosen with some excellent illustrative examples.
Highly recommended.

My all-time favourite podcast
Absolutely adore this podcast! ❤️ Sheer listening bliss if you’re into any sort of detective fiction or indeed late 19th & early 20th century British history. You don’t need to be a golden age crime fiction buff to enjoy, it’s a great place to start if you’ve never read any or are just getting into. I’ve discovered so many amazing authors I wouldn’t have done otherwise. Every episode is clearly meticulously researched and always leaves the listener wanting more! Please keep making this forever 🙏

Perfect for 'who dunnit' lovers
It's amazing how many interesting themes and topics Caroline teases out of this genre - if you love Agatha Christie or any other 'golden age' detective fiction, it's a must-listen.

She done it
I’ve been listening to this from the beginning and quite frankly it’s brilliant. I was never a fan of the genre but this series has opened my eyes and given me more reading material.

Fascinating insights into the golden age of crime with all my favourite queens of crime featured - Caroline is a questioning, sincere, and delightful guide. (Also, bring back srsly!....)

Cool, calm and collected crime
I really enjoy the Shedunnit podcasts, they are always well constructed and focus on interesting topics. I particularly like the way in which they cover historical information, including actual crimes of the era, as well as the fiction of the “golden age”.

Always fascinating
I can’t believe how she continues to fascinate on the range of ideas on detective fiction but it’s always excellent

This podcast is truly a delight. Packed full of interesting, well-researched commentary and insight on the golden age detective writers I really look forward to it each week. The host has the most peaceful and delight voice and it really is a lovely podcast to listen to. Feeds my love of grizzly murder while making me feel as though I’m chatting to my cleverest friend - a really great podcast!

Golden age of podcasts
What could be more golden than a podcast on the golden age of crime fiction! Just when I thought there was nothing more I could learn about my crime writing heroines I stumble upon this and my eyes (well ears) are open further! Thank you Caroline

Super Podcast.
Love the podcasts. They are all very well researched and Susan really puts the views over well. I’ve not missed one since it started and have now joined the book club.

A must for fiction fans
A well researched a presented show which delves into both the writing and the social context of many of our best loved murder mystery writers. Caroline is very knowledgeable and shines a new light onto this wonderful genre. Introducing new and old fans to a wide variety of authors.

Real crime and fiction intermingled
Such a great podcast for fans of interwar crime fiction and those interested in the cases that inspire them.
Beware though - you will want to buy all the books!

Love this podcast
Absolutely love this podcast. Really enjoy being transported to a different time and place through the words (beautifully written) and sounds. It’s making me want to read the novels mentioned. Most of all, finding out more about women at this moment in history is fascinating. 😍

Great Podcast
Really interesting podcast. Makes for great listening.

A wonderful window into classic crime
I’m a very recent listener to Shedunnit and love the podcast. The framing of each episode is wonderfully done and the musical accompaniments take you straight to the relevant period. I’ve always enjoyed novels by Margery Allingham, Ngaio Marsh, Agatha Christie etc and it’s wonderful to be able to taken directly back into the Golden Age.

One of my favourite podcasts!
I absolutely adore this podcast. Caroline is wonderful at giving us a window into different issues and facets of classic crime books and the era in which they're written. She has such a lovely voice too. I'm just returning to a love of this era/type of crime novel (read all the Agatha Christies when I was a kid but ended up reading the more gritty modern day ones) - so I'm rediscovering/discovering a lot of new books and authors with the help of multiple sources, including Caroline's lovely podcast. It is a little gem and each episode feels like a beautifully crafted labour of love. Definitely recommend!

Fantastic information
I wait with heightened anticipation for every other Wednesday when the next podcast comes around. Caroline does wonderful research and never gives away ‘spoilers’ but makes you want to read not only the novels she mentions but also read ‘around’ those novels. I have been so inspired by the podcast that I have joined the Book club which Caroline has started and am looking forward to discussing ‘Cat Among the Pigeons’ with likeminded enthusiasts.

Wonderful podcast
Fantastic Podcast, well produced, interesting an educational! Has broadened my reading horizons, and taught me things about the Golden Age I didn’t know.
My only criticism is that I have to wait for the next episode!
2019-05-10
Great storytelling
I really enjoy listening to the podcast and look forward to each new episode. I have read a bit of classic crime over the years but never really delved very deep into the background of the stories or their setting and time. Listening to Caroline’s stories about the stories is as just fascinating as a good crime novel itself.

period style
I have only just discovered this podcast and Im hooked! For afficianados of Golden age Crime its heaven ! Thank you !
This particular broadcast was of interest to me as in a previous life I designed the costumes for Marple ( ITV) and have had many discussions about the balance between period accuracy and modern style.
Keep going Caroline ! I love it !

A great listen
I think this is a great podcast. Part college seminar, part essay, part chit-chat with your whodunnit nerdy friend. This is an easy and engaging listen that had me reading and rereading the golden age crime I’d sort of forgotten about.
The whodunnit genre, and particularly Agatha Christie it would seem, can have a lot of snooty pedantic fans always out to find fault. This podcast does not come from that place at all. It is accessible and inclusive.
Five stars!
2019-05-09
Always a lovely listen!
Have been listening to this from the beginning. I always learn something new and enjoy the ‘peak behind the curtain’ moments. The true crime eps are always really fascinating and atmospheric - as I know less about those stories.
Always look forward to a new episode and love Caroline’s gentle manner and the music choices.
2019-05-09
Wonderful listen
I am entirely new to this era of crime fiction, but Caroline’s enthusiasm and the quality of research has entirely hooked me.
Brilliantly delivered with great production - it’s the highlight of the fortnight!

Patronising and dull
I need say little more: there is a plethora of fab crime podcasts around (try All About the Dame for Agatha fans). This simply isn’t in their league. The narration is monotone, sleep-inducing and smacks of “head girl lecturing the first form”. I particularly did not need a little lecture on why 20s music was being employed - I’d kind of worked it out without needing the knowing little explanation. Move on!
2019-04-16
Interesting topics & observations. Rather flat delivery.
Great concept, and content. Would love to hear more...
Rather flat, monotonous delivery style and sense of a ‘script being read’ rather than a writer enthusing about their topic, removes one star.

Fabulous
I’ve only just discovered this podcast .. it’s delightful .. the perfect listen

Perfect podcast
This podcast is an absolute delight to listen too! Every episode is fascinating, I’ve been looking for something like this for a long time! I would love to hear more from you and excited for more episodes in the future.

Educational and spoiler free
I love hearing the breakdown behind these wonderful books that’s I’ve never had time to read but love watching the adaptations.

Excellent
Great podcast. Fills a niche brilliantly. Fascinating and very well researched. A must-listen.
2019-03-22
A podcast I didn’t know I wanted!
I loved Agatha Christie as a child and still re-read the books and keep up with the adaptations. I admittedly haven’t read many of the other authors mentioned in the podcast- but will do now! This is fun, informative and Caroline obviously loves the subject. The writing and production are great and I really look forward to each episode.

Once you have found it you will download all of them
Fabulous podcast. Really interesting topics, none voyouristic but unpacks issues and ideas about the murders of the day and how they fit into fiction. I'm with some of the others that I want more. And I would pay for it! If this was an hour a week I would happily pass my shekels over. Well done and big fan.

So enjoyable
A very listenable podcast about crime fiction, I have thoroughly enjoyed each episode. Caroline’s voice is pleasant to listen to and her content is unique and interesting. Long may it continue!

Excellent podcast!
I really enjoy this podcast. It's very well researched and as a fan of detective novels (specially Agatha Christie's novels) this podcast is perfect for me. A few episodes made look at the novels from another point of view so I'm re-reading them.
