I’m a big fan of this podcast and think the content is often fascinating. However, don’t understand why you feel the need to style yourselves as some weird cult — isn’t it okay to have a good podcast without needing to name your listeners as if it’s a burgeoning movement? Can be really much too self-regarding for my liking.

Listening to these two friends chat and bounce off each other, it is as if it is unscripted. But suzi d holds everything together, and I learn something with every episode - with a laugh or a story behind everything. Unmissable to me.

I love this podcast. When Gyles recited the Elizabeth Barrett Browning poem it was so beautiful I cried.

Listened during a long car trip to fill some time. Thought it would be a little boring but the way both of you communicate without the need to look up every word, makes a seamless journey through the origins of our language and I can’t stop listening.

One of the best podcasts I have listened too.

Ironic that in the latest podcast Giles complains about London Transport announcements and that they like the sound of their own voice.

Giles - less talking and repeating what others have said and random irrelevant stuff from you would make it so much better.

Recently discovered this podcast and find it a lovely companion on my country walks. Gyles and Susie make this a mixture of such interesting facts and light hearted banter. My only disappointment is being unable to retain all the information, I just hope my brain has secretly stored it and will produce it if ever needed.

I’ve discovered this podcast a few months ago. And the only way I seem to be able to describe how I feel when ( and after) I listen to it is… I can physically feel my brains smiling. I just love words the way knowledge is imparted in this podcast is out of this world. Thank you❤️

Love this podcast and listened to every ep but very disappointed that every other episode is now only available when purchased! Should remain a freely available thing to listen to, has put me off that they have become greedy with it

Sometimes Gyles is too much… does he realise that? He tips over into rudeness… his enthusiasm to tell his stories means he talks over Susie…I don’t know how she holds her temper sometimes

Listening to yet another episode I found it so stimulating that I could not drift off to sleep (it was 3am btw) then to top it off Gyles quoted a poem on Dryden which I had to write down in case I forgot it. I did too. So thanks 🙏

My friend recommended this podcast to me after we discussed the plural of octopus (octopuses/octopodes/octopi). It is an absolute joy to listen to Susie and Giles. Working my way through the back catalogue now. What a treat!

This podcast is my absolute favourite one to listen to each and every week. Having sat in the countdown studio audience and got to know Susie as well as I have I never miss an episode and even created a Facebook group for the purple people which anybody can join if you are on Facebook -just search something Ryan’s with purples purple people. I learn something new every single week about our language thanks to Susie.

I see the subscription model has now kicked in - podcasts will die if this continues. Will just find somethin’ else to listen to now. Format is tired and spark seems to have gone lately.

What a fantastic podcast, so very entertaining and delivered with passion.

Such a good listen, funny, smart, and professionally done. The Susie/Gyles combo is absolutely perfect for this subject matter, and combining education with humour is very effective.

It’s also worth listening just to hear the seemingly straight laced Susie Dent offer some seriously fruity language. I wonder why swearing is referred to as fruity?.......

Love this podcast, look forward every Tuesday just to listen. Gyles and Susie have a great rapport, Gyles is like an excitable puppy and Susie the sensible one trying to keep it together 😂 works really well.

Fabulous program but titles of the episodes give no clue as to the subject unless you are as clever as Suzy.

What a fantastic podcast. I learn so much whilst listening. Susie and Gyles are fun to listen to and I love the times when Susie has to pull on Gyles’ reins as he runs away on his feast of storytelling romps! This is what podcasting is about surely?

I’ve long been a fan of Susie’s on Countdown, and Gyles has always been a complete joy when he’s joined Susie in Dictionary Corner.

I’ve loved words as long as I can remember, (my first reading was record labels!) but even though I thought of myself as intelligent I didn’t realise how few words I actually knew.

This podcast has opened my eyes to some that I thought I knew. Stiff upper lip is American - I never would have guessed that, nor that Wow is Scottish. I’d always blamed Americans for that one, and I’m sure I’m not the only one who thought Stiff upper lip was English!

It’s always entertaining and fun, and, like watching Countdown, you’re never aware of learning something because Susie and Gyles don’t make it sound like a lesson. Long may it continue!

Thank you so much both of you got this wonderful podcast. Cheers me up no end. Listen to it on walks and when I can’t sleep at night. Educational, entertaining, fun.
