I love the mixture of being genuinely informed and informative, as well as sometimes making me giggle.

Excellent - happy hols

I normally spit blood at the woke nonsense and acceptance of nationalism in bbc journalism. But, this, this is a gem. You’ve found gold. You entertained us, tickled our funny bone and provided interesting and illuminating info. Don’t change whatever you do!! We wait in baited breath for your return.🙏

Ben Rhodes 3 reasons for where we are

Whilst it was good to listen to Ben’s reasons on why we are here I think the two reasons below in my view are the key.
Normalization of institutional lies from the invasion of Iraq by the USA and UK. 98% of the UK electorate was against this move. This breaking of fundamental trust has created deep rooted cynicism across democracies that allow players like Trump to speak clear, simple sound bites that connect, and, allows him to blame all the problems on this blatant deceit.
Micro manipulation of the disaffected via social media content and bots. People feel their most comfortable when they are liked, noticed, or have their views confirmed on Social Media. Politics has become an unwelcome noise and distraction because the most emotionally relevant, and manipulated, conversation is happening online.

Still making stories about Trump when he is gone and irrelevant

Be fair and balanced

Why are u still taking about Trump and trying to bash the Republicans. Can u please provide opinion on what is happening to the US economy, the President’s reaction to the Israel/ Palestine conflict, the gas pipe sabotage and whether the border is in crisis.

Good, but it almost feels like a monthly summation of the brilliant 'pod save America'.

Erudition and Fun

Americast is a great example how sharp insight combined with a wonderful prep school sense of fun combines to educate and reveal the issues facing the USA and provide a balanced discussion. Brilliant!

Americast

Brilliant podcast. Keeps me up to date with important topics. Only complain is the introduction containing the now completely redundant Trump comments!

Supercool

I’m middle aged, non political and would never normally write a review but I just have to say I LOVE your podcast. You guys are great together and as we already know, well educated, well spoken and well informed
I wish all podcasts were as professional as yours. I recommend it to anyone that will listen (to me 🤣)

Americast

If I were to be a pub-goer which I know nobody has been this last year. But say I was or maybe I wasn’t, but I knew these three showed up at my local on a Wednesday evening to get the craic ( a Scottish term for catching up with people) and to talk about American politics, I would make sure I toddled down and got a seat close enough to listen to the witticisms, the banter, the knowledge. Not sure what I love about it so much except it’s the way you do it. Thank you.

Stunningly biased

Even by the standards of the BBC this podcast makes no pretence at fairness or balance.

A ‘Fly on the wall’ privilege

Absolutely superb podcast. The interactions between ‘Maitlis’, ‘Sopes’ and ‘the Zurch’ has the privileged feel of dropping in on three professionals in the news field speaking freely on the American stories of the day.

Oh dear

Great most of the time but BBC wokeness personified at others. No challenge against LaTosha Brown on any of her arguments and when she complained that European royalty is too white my belief was beggared. I guess I missed the history lesson about when Europe stopped being a predominantly white continent and needed to rewrite it’s past.

Americast

More created than written, Maitlis and Sopel dip deep behind the eyeballs of America. Hugely insightful and imaginative.
Just occasionally a Podcast comes along that draws you in, compelling you to listen, wherever you are, whatever the time of day. This is one.

Flat, biased, does not back up claims with evidence

Update 04.03.21- The latest podcast continued to focus more on former President Trump than the actual policies and activities of the current President. Very little scrutiny of the bills being voted on in The House or the many executive orders signed by President Biden.
The hosts have continued their attacks on Cruz, the first Hispanic Senator elected to represent Texas, which seem disproportionate when you take into account the level of scandal. (There’s no shortage of scandal in DC, as a starting point check out Eric Swalwell and his connection to a Chinese Communist Party spy, or the four Senators who sold stock after a private Covid briefing, before the Covid response crashed the stock market).
There was some cautious coverage of the Cuomo scandals.
Update 25.02.21- Nice to see the Americast crew cover the Cuomo scandal this week. It isn’t just ‘coming out in the last few weeks’ as stated though, people were blowing the whistle on this in April 2020. (Start with Janice Dean if you’d like to do your own research on this). I see Americast doesn’t aim to be ahead of the curve. That’s their prerogative. There are plenty of other podcasts that do.
I wonder when they’ll cover the Hunter Biden laptop in detail. Probably once CNN and WaPo decide it’s acceptable. Would have been nice to have a deep dive into that prior to the election.
Update 20.02.21- I see Americast has done an episode about the ‘Cruz scandal’, fair enough, this was a political gaffe and bad optics, but I see nothing about the Cuomo scandal which is potentially criminal, most likely led to the deaths of many elderly New Yorkers, reportedly manipulated the figures and threatened those around him to participate in the cover up. Completely biased and an injustice to the British people you claim to inform.
The presenters sound downright giddy in their criticism of Ted. No context was given to the British people about the actual role of a US Senator in a state crisis (very limited) and many claims were made that Ted was dishonest in his account (with no evidence presented).
Tony Tinderholt handled himself very well in his interview and showed up the hosts who wanted to focus on Ted Cruz, rather than the real issues and solutions for Texans that are suffering.
Also in discussing and criticising Texas government, attacking ‘rugged individualism’ in what is an extreme weather event in Texas, there was no mention of California where a power outage is a ‘normal Tuesday’.
Original review- I keep coming back to this Podcast and really want to like it but it is essentially three people who all agree with each other discussing a subject they don’t have any specialist knowledge of. At time key facts are either omitted or reported inaccurately. None are experts on The Constitution or have inside knowledge or relationships to the people they're discussing. They also don’t present any real evidence to back up their opinions. This might work for some people, but unfortunately it just doesn’t do it for me. I want a podcast that teaches me something new or at least features some level of intelligent debate. They also fail to capture the mood of America, and often parrot the talking points of the Cable News media.

No more Trump lies please

I did not enjoy the CPAC episode. I do not think the BBC should continue to give airtime to Trump’s blatant lies. By all means report and comment on the event but do not transmit verbatim his continued falsehoods. He is relying on that to perpetuate his myths. I particularly did appreciate the observations of how frightened Republican politicians are of alienating the Trump ‘mob’

Unbelievable

These two do my head in. You do not speak for the UK so don’t tell others what we think. This is why people want to defund the bbc

Good for current affairs info but quite cringe

Good for getting up to date on all the biggest stories but the whole "Soaps" "Maitlis" "banter" makes me cringe so hard, leave it at public school guys. Also why are 99% of the guest right wing, a balance of left and right perspectives would be preferable

A must listen!

I love this podcast. It’s fun, full of excellent information and a joy to listen to. I started mid 2020 and convinced my husband to, and we both now tune in religiously. I am thrilled when I head out to walk my dog and see I’ve got a new episode to keep me company. Great work guys!

Journalism yes. Banter no.

Americast needs to just stick to good solid journalism and leave out the public school ‘Maitlis’ and ‘Sopes’ banter. Very irritating as they’re not good at it. Also....does ‘Maitlis’ get paid more than ‘Sopes’? Let’s ‘hopes’.

It's a triump of a podcast

I look forward to seeing that my podcast feed has downloaded a new Americast podcast. The three main journalists are clever, witty and impartial! It's vitally important to be impartial. When they interview the right-wing Republicans or the left-wing Democrats there's no pre-judgement and I can listen to the interviewee opinions without interruptions or comment. Top quality information and entertainment.

FINALLY a great podcast on US Politics

As a former American Studies student I miss a life of attending politics lectures, debating US politics and monitoring the news and elections for my studies. Americast is the next best thing. It’s a flashback to those nerdy days of reading up on Constitutional details, listening to people of very different political persuasions, and generally getting absorbed in this weird and patriotic world. Americast is the ONLY podcast I’m consistently caught up on and I’d recommend it to anyone who’ll listen.

Great informative podcast

But I always feel uneasy that the one American, on Americast, is not an equal partner and Zurch is excellent. Come on - this seems out of date.

Amused and obsessed with the 2019 American election whilst trying to manifest for the sake of the world Joe Biden would win and Trump will finally disappear Americast became the most perfect educator and commentator in real time. Please may it long continue!

A very good little find!

I’ve become very reticent of BBC and it’s politics, all to often you get dragged down into their bias. But this little gem is a treat and perfectly impartial. What a pleasure, ‘Sopes’, Emily and Antony create a wonderful dynamic and the content is enlightening. Wish I’d picked this up last year.

Hearing Soapes discuss Majorie Taylor Greene and the election with the Trump supporting congressman was compelling but shocking listening. (Trump Bit Parts)

Just found this gem!

Only came across this podcast January 2021 so listened to it from the beginning which was fascinating when you know the outcome and how the world altered with COVID and obviously the election result. Please please keep this going even though you won’t be reporting on the Ayrshire Golf Course owner so much, it gives a real insight into American Politics and love the presenters who interview in a non-badgering style and obviously have a great relationship

Was excellent but...

Following the mistake of Brexitcast / Newscast in becoming a caricature of its former self. People tune in for the analysis and expertise and whilst humour is welcome can we have less inane gameshow and more Zirch. The rest is rather toe-curling.

Why ?

With so many enemies in power why is the BBC using licence fee money to pay for Emily Maitliss to fly out to the USA to cover an election where we don’t have a dog in the fight? Could have been done from a studio in London. Does Sir David Attenborough know this is going on ? Time to end my support. Hasta la vista.

Who let the dogs out

Why isn’t everyone angry that the republicans are being so so selfish. Democracy is in danger here. Yet another example of The GOP behaving like the mafia. Strong arming the senators. I hope voters see this.

Great but...

I love the podcast, the presenters are fabulous and I despise Donald Trump, but I found the Sinatra-style song unprofessional. I’m all for the relaxed tone - it’s the joy of the podcast - but this feature didn’t seem very impartial to me.
