Brilliant and informative

What a brilliant and touching look back at how LGBTQ+ rights have changed since the 70s. Excellent production values too!

Fantastic insight

I just finished listening to The Log Books and really enjoyed the experience; the creators managed to strike a great balance between giving insight into the personal experiences of select individuals, while putting those stories into their wider social/legal context.

Brilliant

Have loved every episode of this podcast. Real human stories that portray the wonderful, quirky, scary and heroic sides of lgbt+ life and the enduring invaluable role the switchboard has played throughout. Always there, but never judging. As a community we are blessed to have had it there for us all this time

Recording our history

I am really enjoying this podcast and what an important role it’s playing in capturing Queer history in the UK. It giving a voice to the everyday person who happened to be themselves at a time when the rights that we currently have were not available. Well done to all and thank you.

Pretty Police

This took me back. I knew of many cases of police agents provocateurs and falsification of evidence. The only hope was to take risk of a jury trial, because magistrates simply accepted the police evidence, without question.

Our history

Growing up not knowing anyone who was like me, not recognising anyone like me...I felt so alone. The Log Books is changing this, changing the accessibility of what is out there. Let’s share this vital resource so that others can share further.

Fascinating and insightful look at LGBT history

The Log Books podcast captures entertaining and thought-provoking stories from the Switchboard archives. Whatever your background and orientation, it really emphasises how important a sense of community and connection is for all of us. Highly recommended!

Living history that must be told

I am completely loving this - history can teach us so much and if we listen can only make the future better for us all. The stories are heartwarming, sad and powerful. The image of Lynne and Elaine and a very big handbag is making smile even after I’ve finished listening. Well done Tash, Adam and Shivani

An untold story well-told

A moving set of stories about the LGBT experience in London. It’s amazing what hasn’t changed, as well as what has. But the need for community, for compassion is a strong as it ever was, and the production of this show is a testament to that compassion. Unmissable.

Already Hooked

An authentic, pure and sincere insight into the lives of LGBT people over the years who have called Switchboard. People seeking help, advice and often just a friendly voice on the other end. Beautifully collated and narrated. A wonderful testament to those who called and to those who volunteered their time to listen.

Warning: mascara destroyer

I listened to the first episode on public transport, which was perhaps an error. Your mascara, should you wear it, may be at risk.
The Log Books features incredibly moving stories, both tragic and uplifting, beautifully told with a mixture of firsthand testimony and informative framing from the podcast team. Switchboard has been at the end of a phone line for people in need of support for 45 years - and the charity's log books give us a unique insight into our society's recent past. A must for anyone interested in social history, equality and the development of LGBTQ+ rights - and for all of us who believe that love is love.

Can’t wait to listen to the next one

I could honestly listen to the podcast for hours on end - fascinating and incredibly powerful. The first episode is so thought provoking and, for the first time in my life, my history and the history of the generations before me is being told. Thank you, thank you, thank you x

Shines a light

So far, so great. Why I love this (in idea and execution) is because it shines a light on such an important resource and support (if not lifeline) - Switchboard - which I used myself in 1999, when I was 26 years old. Strong stories, well-told, sensitively handled and beautifully curated. Important, but not highbrow. Really recommend.

Amazing

The Log Books delves into British queer history in a personal and incredibly affecting way. I love that through talking about our past they highlight issues that still persist today - homelessness, exclusion, and lack of safety. Well done on this incredible piece of storytelling

LGBTQ+ life then and now

I listened to the first episode: love the way they have used issues in the Switchboard Log Books from the 1970’s and 1980’s to look at people’s experiences then and now, and how things have changed (some more than others). The blending of readings from the log book entries, Switchboard volunteers’ giving their recollections and context, and people from LGBTQ+ organisations talking about their work now, worked really well. Looking forward to more editions!

Brilliant listen

A really beautiful idea, which has been well executed to create a really powerful podcast, which even moved me to tears at one point. Certainly not afraid to shy away from tough issues, I think this content is relatable for many LGBT+ people in one way or another. Well done to all involved in the creation and the people who shared their stories! Looking forward to the rest of the series 🏳️‍🌈

Now & Then

We so needed this once and as things are changing we will need this again perhaps more than ever, Switchboard has always been there and always been needed by our community, 'gay' life is not a 'lifestyle' choice it is who we are and so many struggle with this and need that quiet anonymous voice, one of their community to listen and understand their struggles also sometimes their joys. This is their voices their stories, but it is our history. An extraordinary resource that we so need to hear.
Thank you

So easy is to forget our history…

… and so it is very important to remind ourselves of how things were and how things may be for other people now and for all in a maybe not so distant future.
This is an important podcast for our community. Poignant and tender.
