Episode 1: Persona Non Grata

Host Edith Bowman discusses the first episode of the sixth and final season of The Netflix series The Crown, with four very special guests.
Time: 50:13
As Princess Diana and the boys set off for St Tropez for a holiday courtesy of Mohamed Al Fayed, Prince Charles plans a glittering fiftieth birthday party at Highgrove that he hopes the Queen will attend. Fayed, too, is in strategizing mode. Unbeknownst to Diana, he hopes to engineer a romance between the Princess and his son, Dodi. But with a small complication: Dodi himself is already engaged to someone else.

In the opening episode of the series, Edith Bowman speaks with Writer and Creator Peter Morgan, Director Alex Gabassi, Head of Research Annie Sulzberger, and talks with the actor portraying the final iteration of Queen Elizabeth, Imelda Staunton.

Fact or Fiction: no analysis!

This fawning podcast - yes it includes star interviews - does not actually distinguish between Fact or Fiction in the portrayals of people of events enough, whereas the ‘The Crown: Fact or Fiction’ podcast sets out to do just that. A much more satisfying analysis for fans.

so good❗️

I LOVE this podcast! Find it so insightful - learning various bits of history, background and research and how it’s all pulled together. If you love the crown, listen to this!
Just to flag, S4 E02 episode is playing E03 instead :(

Devoid of interesting analysis

Completely devoid of any original or thoughtful observations. Prepare for such nuggets as “hair and make up really adds a lot”, “Thatcher was a dynamic female Prime Minister” and “This episode is rich with material”. A sad indictment of mainstream arts analysis. Don’t bother.

Always a pleasure to listen to Edith Bowman, who speaks with knowledge and enthusiasm on all film and TV matters. I totally adore the Netflix production, and the discussion in this podcast series gives great commentary. If I had a criticism it would be that I’m binge watching the TV series, but have to wait for this podcast series.
I lived during this period, and episode 3 brought overwhelming sadness and the memory of watching the news on my Dad’s black and white TV.

Interesting process for creating a serious historical drama

I admire how detailed the Casting Directors take to find actors that correlate with the previous actors and present an aged personality. History researchers do a deep dive into each person from multiple sources, to bring a fairly formulated character based on the events occured at the time.
Also Peter Morgan is superb as a showrunner.

Insightful - a must listen for fans
