Post-apocalyptic satire

Hmm, well, all I can really say is... genius! I stopped reading Private Eye about five years ago because it was too depressing. I still enjoy satire and the skewer is inspired. A great way of poking fun, twisting the skewer as they say. Keep it up, you’re doing great.

Hm

If my anger and confusion were to be recorded, it might sound something like this.

Superb

Truly wonderful. Funny and acidic mashups that have brought me to tears at times. John, you are a genius.

Cassette Boy on Steroids

I’m a massive fan of mashups and this is the king of them all. Acidic, close to the bone and delivered straight no chaser this’ll make you say whoa for sure!

Brilliant

A great listen, and has been fun/scary listening back to the oldest ones before the pandemic got started.
Without doing the combined talent a disservice, it is like cassette boy and Jaguar Skills have joined forces. Rich content with great music!

Brilliantly produced.

Has me laughing out loud on my dog walk. Very cleverly done. Kier Starmer being asked questions by the school children was one of my favourite bits.

Wow

What a find, love this (and with reference to a previous review I have an attention span and I’m very far away from the 8 ear old age group!) This is a very clever, sharp and well-crafted broadcast. How anyone puts together something like this is beyond me but hats off to Mr Holmes. Much of it is eye opening and all of it is entertaining whilst I laughed out loud at some of the elements. It won’t be for everyone but I’m sure many will really enjoy this offering.

Outstanding

This is an absolutely amazing piece of sonic production. Such detailed production, great creative chops. The perfect combination of powerful commentary and sonic skills. One of the best things I’ve heard for a long, long time. Would give my right arm to make work as good as this!

Wonderful programme.

This show is so clever, dark, witty and definitely worth a listen. It’s satire with a clear and powerful message that really lands a blow.
It must take loads of effort to put this together and it’s wonderful. I could see this as a TV show one day. There just isn’t enough satire when there is so much to feed from.

Great Stuff

Jon Holmes’ programme is superb, the Now Shows greatest loss has produced a topical series of another level that is also oddly incredibly child friendly 🤣

Off the hook

There’s nothing like this out there.
Brilliant songs, cutting satire, off beat observations and a soundtrack that relentlessly keeps it moving it’s definitely listen more than once stuff - you’ll always hear something new.
More please!

Disorientatingly good

The Skewer is a wonderfully crafted informative mix tape of sensory pleasure. It’s haunting, addictive, chaotic and yet beautifully organised.
The only way for you to form on opinion on it is it to listen to it. Go on!

A dreadful assault on the senses

To my ears this is an horrific, channel hopping, short-attention-span, brain-dump, redolent of a Kubrickesque post-apocalyptic nightmare.
No doubt, when my 8 year old comes to the world of satire, this will suit her and her peers but for me this is the most unpleasant and downright stress-inducing noise I have suffered in some time. I would rather endure a 3 hour MRI scan or a have the gas company dig up my road on a pleasant Sunday evening than ever listen to this hellishness again.
Awful Mr Holmes, just awful! The only saving grace is that it was mercifully short - pun intended!

Astonishingly good

Difficult to describe this; it’s totally different to anything I’ve ever listened to. Satire, soundbite, current affairs, topical review. So much squeezed into 15 minutes. Listen to this 100 times and you will not tire of the content and will find something new each time. I love it and want more.

Blue Milk

A woosy, post-flu, discombobulating sensation is pumped into your satire glands, as a caustic mash-up of the week’s news farts into your neurotransmitters. Chris Morris’s late-night ambience-fest ‘Blue Jam’ (from Radio 1) meets Radio 1’s late night atmospheric comedy ‘Milk Round’.
Except we’re grown-ups now, so it has to be on Radio 4.
Christ knows why it’s repeated at 19:15 on a Sunday.
Sublime.
You have to listen to this.
More please.
