Time: 1:25:10
Our guest for episode 64 is violinist, orchestrator, arranger, educator and potentially busiest person in the world, Katie Kresek. Katie is currently concertmaster and co-orchestrator on the Broadway production of Moulin Rouge - this year she became only the 4th woman ever to be Tony nominated in the orchestrations category.
Seb and Verity catch Katie via zoom on a break in her hectic schedule at her home in New York. Despite some internet related issues - the curse of 2021 - they have a fulsome chat about Broadway reopening, the joyous collaborative process of orchestrating Moulin Rouge and what we can expect when it arrives in the West End this year.
Katie talks about depping on other shows (including some shared love for Hamilton), learning how to say no to things, successful collaborations with pop acts and the dancing/playing conundrum.....with reference to podcast favourite, Kelly Pratt. They discuss crazy commutes, mastering backing vocals and an amazing University course Katie taught in NYC - it'll make you all want to go back into education!
There is an early guest appearance from Matilda the cat and a late intervention from baby Stella! Plain sailing as always...
You can find out more about Katie on her website and follow her on Instagram.

An hour well spent. Thoroughly enjoyed listening to musicians talking about the highs and lows of their lives. These podcasts are a delightful mix of fun, anecdotes and surprising bits of information. The interviewees are a diverse mix and each podcast has a different feel. These podcasts are an insight into the wonderful world of music.
When musicians make music with others there is true collaboration. The sense of camaraderie is evident in these podcasts.
