Everything about this podcast is excellent- wonderfully written, fantastic production and Paul McCann narration is the best I’ve ever heard.

This is without a doubt my favourite podcast to listen to. I’ve listened to every episode and eagerly await each new one. The narration is perfect and the takes from various historians add so much. This podcast has kept me company on many long car rides and I’ve learned so, so much from it. Could not recommend highly enough.

I have been listening and re-listening to this podcast for a few years now and I can’t get enough of it. It’s my number 1 recommendation to anyone who wants a new poddy to listen to. Also: I’m a huge Paul McGann fan so hearing his voice on demand is just amazing! My only worry is that one day they will run out of dictators…

I love this podcast it really is amazing and really does give a good insight into dictators personal, political, public and early life and late life

Democracies simply do not exist in this world, power is always in the hands of a very few, even in the US and Europe, except that those who are dictators are not individuals but a group of people, for example, bankers, arms dealers ...... These people are often hidden behind some politician. These politicians appear to be soliciting rights for the people, but in fact, these politicians are merely fighting for greater benefits for the plutocrats behind them while giving a little scrap of benefit to the people.

Utterly absorbing and truly terrifying in places. The insights we are given into the minds, actions and madnesses of some of the most evil and diabolical people ever to take power is fascinating to listen to.

I love everything about this podcast. It’s fascinating to learn the history surrounding the dictators, how they started, what they did to get to power and stay there & how it all ended. Paul McGann’s narration is sublime👌and sets the tone, the music is superbly atmospheric 👍 and the sounds effects really draw you into the story telling. My absolute favourite podcast. Do the final part on hitlers life.

I love history and this is by far the best history podcast I’ve ever listened to. The narration is excellent, having a professional actor, Paul McGann, makes a big difference. The episodes are well written and build the drama and tension of these awful characters’ lives to the inevitable violent ends. You also learn a lot about the countries concerned and other relevant events. I highly recommend, I hope they make more.

I can’t remember how I came across this podcast, but I’m so glad I did. Extremely Informative, presented in an engaging manner that makes you want to come back for more. I remember after I first started listening to it, impatient for the next episode to drop. Counting the days to the Julius Caesar episodes. I’ve been fascinated to hear all about these dictators and I look forward to many more episodes.

Love it…came across it when wanted to learn more about Stalin…have listened to all episodes and found it very interesting and it thoroughly engaged me even when I had little interest about the particular historical figure.

I love the podcast used to listen to it every week on the day it came out, almost without fail.

Not listened to it lately due to all the subscription nonsense, we’re in the midst of a cost of living crisis and you choose now to start barring us from content. It smacks of greed. Especially when you are selling ads on the podcast anyway.

Please get back to what you do best.

This is how I want to learn about history.

My only complaint is I wish they were in a better time line order historically. The episodes jump around. I’d like a season on Hitler and a season on Stalin, simply. Rather than buried and not always in order.

Great mix of expert narration, interviews and use of music. My only issue is sometimes the volume of the narrator’s voice is too soft to the point where it easily gets drowned by traffic noise and I have to keep rewinding and adjusting the volume.

Can’t fault the “Real Dictators” podcast series and I have listened to every single episode. The episodes are very well researched and presented excellently with expert historians providing their own inputs as well. Paul McGann has a great voice and really gives this show an edge; it feels more like listening to a story! I recently subscribed to Noiser + and it’s probably my best subscription. The other Noiser shows (Short History of, Real Narcos etc.) are also brilliant in their own right.

This series and “a short history” are up there with the best podcasts ever. Thoroughly researched and detailed and taking its time to understand why these despicable men did what they did and of course it is topped off with utter spellbinding charm by the voice of Paul McGann. Class.

Paul McGann could read a takeaway menu and I’d be gripped.
