Quite interesting to listen to, but some of the pronunciation of local places, from someone who is from the area, is hard to take! Standen, Keynes and evening Grin Stead. Who says that!?

Love this podcast

Really enjoyed this series which gets to the heart of Englishness via psychology, mysticism and history. I’d love a second series!

I’ve lived in the East Grinstead area for over 50 years so I’d come across most of the topics covered but to have them all explored in such depth objectively, resisting the temptation to be sensationalist and from several different perspectives was both illuminating and refreshing.

Nick Hilton does a super job in bringing to life this peculiar little town of East Grinstead. Lovely storytelling and well crafted throughout, and featuring Jon Ronson!

Who knew East Grinstead was so interesting? Nick Hilton has delivered an fascinating sweeping panorama of a county town reputed for its tolerance for difference (reflected in the title and the tale from which it sprung) and, as logically follows, alternative spirituality. A thoroughly-researched podcast created, recorded, edited under lockdown. Impressive on all levels — and absolutely worth your time.

Brilliant, gripping and quirky

Nick Hilton has a wonderful eye for curious and interesting stories. He tells the story of East Grinstead by looking at its history, the characters that live there today, and his own experience of growing up just outside the town. Full of fascinating tangents and wry humour. I loved it!

An enjoyably irreverent way of telling the history of the place. Very looking forward to the episodes about scientology and mormons etc
