Wild Boys - ANNOYING

I’ve loved everything produced so far but this one…..!! A complete non story about 2 nuts that are a product of a crazy, fringe family. When anyone can even momentarily consider the plausibility of the flat earth conspiracy reason has left town. I’m annoyed at myself for listening to so many episodes.

Diet advertising

Love the show but so incredibly disappointed about the weight loss ad for a company called Reset? It’s so confusing why they would choose to advertise this for a show about scams, kind of ironic if you ask me. It’s for some diet plan where you restrict for 2 days a week (which can absolutely lead to binging and dangerous for people prone to eating disorders)

Pick a better story next time(season 1)

The production is good, if not stereotypic of the genre. It imitates the “investigative journalism around an event” of serial that is the new norm for these shows. Unfortunately the story is not engaging. There are so many stories to be told out there and doing a Hollywood sob story is so superficial. I’m sure the networks other shows can be great because of the production but I gave up after 5 tedious episodes.
Edited for season 3
The first few episodes are really interesting, unfortunately as you listen and the “mystery” is unraveled you discover the story is super uninteresting. The individuals involved are just……not worthy people to learn about for 9 episodes. This falls into the category of “podcast host makes a show about something that happened in his town” which is quite a trope. When you do this, you inevitably stretch a small story too far. Standard large production quality here, lots of editing, lots of music and lots of “I’m 12 and this is deep” over dramatising. Overall poor.

Great podcasts but please less adverts!!!

I get most podcasts nowadays want you to pay for their ad free version. I get they need sponsors. But this otherwise excellent podcast has more adverts than content now. One interruption is ok. Three or four isn’t. It really puts me off listening

It begins with a great premise, two young men walk out of the bush into a small Canadian town. But ultimately the revelations are not enough to maintain its momentum. The self-righteous brothers aren’t likeable enough to build the second part of the series around.

This tale started out with much promise and mystery, but after episode 4 it all just rather petered out to a really dull conclusion . 9 episodes on 2 disturbed boys leave home, lie low. Tell lies and then go home. That’s it. Yes it was about eating disorders so why the advert for some probably hopeless food supplement. Really was a bit of a non story.

Season 2 (High Rollers) is an interesting story story and the host Trevor is excellent but it’s too long and, ultimately, it just ends without any kind of conclusion. Disappointing.

Thoroughly enjoyed the first three episodes of this amazing story. Unfortunately I could not complete the series as it is necessary to subscribe in order to do so. I won’t be listening to any moreCampsite productions as this has completely ruined my experience and think it is an underhand way of gaining subscriptions. Such a shame.

Season one was truly fantastic. Superb journalism, story telling and production. Season two, however, feels unrelated to the themes of ‘Chameleon’ season one. It’s as though Season two’s story was being put together and they didn’t have an outlet for it, so it was tagged onto the Chameleon brand. Listen to S1 but don’t bother with S2.

S2 Could have been wrapped up in 3 episode

I enjoyed Season 1 but the season 2 story is dragged out and seemingly deliberately over complicated. The story telling is all over the place. It could have been wrapped up in a few episodes - no real investigation, just interviews and one starts with “I don’t know anything about this case and not involved at all” paraphrasing but it was true! Just a waste of time.

Expertly narrated- a must-listen

This is genuinely one of the best podcasts I’ve heard. Trevor takes an absolute cluster of a complicated story and somehow wraps it up in a way that keeps you gripped until the very end of the last episode. This is a grower- stick with it, you won’t regret it.

Stick with it

I loved Chameleon, riveted from episode 1 but I actually ditched this series after listening to the first episode. I was just not at all interested in these people. I then went back to it to give it another go and am glad I did as the first episode was a little misleading, it’s a far meatier and worthwhile story than a bunch of annoying weight loss charlatans.
Looking forward to seeing what these writers do next.

The level of material put out doesn’t in anyway justify putting it behind a paywall. I subscribe to a couple of patreon shows whose research and production quality makes me want to support them but this show while decent is streets behind. Second season lacks the element of surprise and mystique so you’re in for a disappointment. 30% of it goes to apple anyway so think again before subscribing.

This series could have been wrapped up in fewer episodes and told much better. What’s with the shampoo adverts too? The American accents, ‘Hollywood’ stories and back chat is very annoying after a while. Hard to believe people were so gullible.

Binge worthy story. Superb production.

If producers wanted a blueprint to create a great podcast, then this is it. A fascinating story, that's brilliantly delivered. The narration by Josh Dean is captivating, the soundtrack is addictive and each episode leaves you satisfied but wanting more, out of pure greed. I'm already super-excited for the next instalment by Campside Media and these guys. Great job.

...yes, a truly fascinating story, but for me it was severely marred by the way in which the main presenter gabbled at top speed. This, combined with the American accent (I’m English), meant that my grasp of the details of this amazing investigation was patchy. Would it hurt to speak at a slightly less frenetic pace?

Compelling, fascinating weird story!

I came across this by chance from an article in the Guardian over the weekend on the Con Queen and his antics in the restaurant influencing business in the UK. The podcast had me gripped from the first minute and I went through the whole season in a day. It’s well written and Josh really does a great job of stitching the story together that just keeps you hanging on. His presentation style is also very relaxed as well as informal without understating the seriousness of the subject and victims. There was also a nice little segue on confidence crimes which provided a different perspective on things. Very slick production.

Incredible story - unique and so well told

So brave of the innocent scammed people to speak up. They’re the ones who for me really made this show and the lovely Indonesian lady at the end. Well done to you on the production side for gaining their trust and for I’m sure lending a hand to track the scammer/s down.

The fairly interesting material could be told in a few episodes. It’s desperately slow-paced and SO. MUCH. ADVERTISING. Stretches of multiple minutes of advertising for other podcasts in every episode, which really put me off.

It’s pretty mediocre tbh

Feels like a poor man’s (or tabloid) version of Serial. The creators seemed to try desperately to mimic and downright imitate the style, but it ends up being more comedy than drama because of the low grade subject at hand.

Just brilliant

I binged this podcast and found it really entertaining. I do agree with another reviewer that hearing Heather’s racist mimicking of the Indonesian handler was very distasteful and I lost sympathy for her instantly. But I guess that’s not the fault of the podcast.
