Great insight to the grey zone

This is a great podcast and it is very interesting and contains a lot of interesting facts especially from the people who are in the industry

Not very good

The presenter is quite wooden. The music and sound effects are annoyingly dramatic and have the feel of a broken Hollywood film trailer. Some really interesting interviews and insights, though.
After listening to the whole series, I feel that the same argument is made over and over again. After a few episodes it loses it’s focus and becomes quite boring. The last episode especially, it’s about half of it is some droning monologue.

So interesting

Great podcast, very interesting guests and the presenter does a brilliant job - a mix of analysis, explaining things and asking good questions.
Music annoying and disappointingly associates the very good content with sensationalist drama.

Interesting content, awful soundtrack

The content and guests are fascinating in this very current podcast. But please for the love of all that is good, remove the assault on the ears that is your soundtrack. It does nothing for the podcast. We’re talking full scale warfare on my eardrums.

Interesting content, but too much drama

A brilliantly researched podcast, with good narration and personal accounts by the host. However the attempt to add drama through intense music and sound affects slightly spoils the content a little.

Great Topic but could be improved

The topic for the podcast and guests are excellent.
The format needs improvement so that it is more of a 1 on 1 Q&A rather than endless interruptions to dumb down what is being said.
Intelligence Matters sets the gold standard in this arena, but I hope this podcast can also evolve over time.

Top-notch podcast

In an era of Greyzone warfare this podcast demystifies does much of it, is incredibly informative, and a gripping listen!

An ever complex situation *updated*

It was interesting to here the concerns of military experts, especially the warnings of the path we seem to be on.
My concern is that misinformation, disinformation, etc is also being adopted internally as a way to silence and ignore legitimate concerns and questions. That wouldn’t really be anything new: conflicts between rulers and the ruled are as old as civilisation and, as history shows, rulers often grab hold of any convenient rhetorical argument, often using a threat of outsider incursion, to protect their position.
More care needs to be taken to differentiate between genuine unrest and questions which may be uncomfortable and external activity. To protect our democracy, we must ensure it works for all of its citizens. Though I suspect that won’t be listened to either and we will continually gift opportunities to those who dislike our way of life... so there we are (with the people of the past) reluctantly condemned to a path we can already see.
Holding on to hope that the remaining podcasts deal with these important contextual issues.
Update: Am almost at the end of Episode 4 and while it is clear there are shenanigans afoot, I find myself mainly concerned with how the conversation moves from disinformation to “misinterpretation” as if there is someone deciding what the correct interpretation of any given information is; I’m similarly uncomfortable with the idea that journalists should not report leaked information in the public interest just in case it should work to the advantage of an “adversary”. The argument, increasingly common from journalists, that interpretations must be controlled to ensure wrong think doesn’t lead to more wrong think feels like indoctrination though I’m sure that isn’t how it is intended, but it is, ironically, the very reason I (and I suspect many others) am moving away from news media.
The podcast is strongly representative of the times.

Interesting but weirdly bravado and nationalistic

This could be such an interesting topic and is well researched but the narrative is very hawky / jingoistic. Plus the sound and editing is like listening to a movie trailer or advert

Irritating background sounds, despite great content

Music and background tones very irritating. Trying to glamourise it just makes it distracting. Great content but had to turn it off. Almost as if they’re trying to kill time and fluff content

I’m not ...

... quite sure what to make of this. It all seems quite well researched and fact checked but then I have to remind myself that’s it’s spoon fed to us by one of the mass media machines that think facts are to do with their particular narrative on any given subject.

Fantastic insight into a quietly creeping threat to western democracies. Ignore it at our peril. Like one commentator warns: we are being boiled like a frog! Don’t let’s be complacent and let’s be very aware of a possible Third World War.

Outstanding podcast from Deborah Haynes

This series of podcasts ‘the grey zone’ should be essential listening to all students, believers in the democratic process, our security personnel and most importantly, our politicians who once again sleepwalked the U.K. into this geopolitical nightmare a.k.a. ‘war by other means’. Haynes explores how countries like Russia China and Iran are systematically dismantling western democracy through a combination of hacking, disinformation, assassination and the corruption of media networks. Sky’s defence correspondent examines the British timid response to the 2012 Litvinenko assassination in London and how, following the Skripal assassination British leadership failed once again to take the difficult but essential steps necessary to conclusively deal with Russian aggression.Personally, I cannot wait for episode two.
