The Pulitzer Prize-winning podcast returns for its second season!
Seven years after his release from prison, former juvenile lifer Luis "Suave" Gonzalez seems to be thriving. His career has taken off, he’s in a committed relationship and he’s received public recognition after telling his story on the podcast. Suave always thought once he was out of prison and found stability in his new life, he would finally feel truly free. But freedom, it turns out, is more complicated than it seems. "Suave" is a deeply intimate portrait of a man battling the lingering trauma of incarceration and his search for happiness in the outside world after a near-lifetime in prison. In this season we explore the long shadow of prison.
Season 2 of Suave releases new episodes weekly starting on April 15, 2025.
Truth and Justice sent me and I’m so glad I followed. Such a complex case that has been hidden for years. Really great podcast, well done.

Excellent
Sensitively and emotionally done. A brilliant burrow into the horrendous way the justice system throws away young people. I can’t wait for the next episode. This is right up there with the original Serial.

Should it be renamed Maria?
The story is meant to be about Suave, but i honestly feel like the journalists tries to steal the show and dominate the story. Maria is overpowering, and whilst the story of Suave needs to be told, i don't feel like Maria is the best listener. For example, we hear phonecalls between the 2 of them, and Suave has been silent for months... he finally calls her from prison, and instead of asking anything, Maria just screams his name and doesn't allow him to speak, despite the limited amount of time allowed for inmates to make calls.. it makes for painful listening

Moving and enlightening
I powered through the first three episodes on my drive to work this morning and can’t wait for next week’s. Episode 3 in particular made me well up in a few places - what an honest and enlightening series, I’m so glad it was made.
