If you’re a fan of absurdist and surreal British comedy, this is the podcast for you.
It’s essentially three old friends, who are also professional comedians, riffing on a topic sent in by a listener.
The topic is merely a starting point however, and it’s anyone’s guess where it ends up. It’s mostly unscripted, with a degree of knowing improvisation that can only come from genuine friendship and comedic talent.
I came to it quite late after listening to Ben Partridge’s other show, and after listening to the latest couple of episodes I decided to go right to the beginning.
I think I enjoy it more now because of that catching up process. There are multitudinous meta references that make more sense once you’ve listened to the way the various elements evolved. It’s not impenetrable to the new listener, but there’s more fun to be had by listening to the whole thing.
As with anything like this, it’s the participatory nature of being in on the joke before it gets told that makes for a certain intimacy with the show.
In that regard it’s no different to ITMA, The Goon Show, Python or the Boosh.
Well worth your time and attention.
