It wasn’t long before Noel ‘put down my toolbox, picked up my handbag and ran away to Ireland!’ where he was arrested for being out drinking on the underground scene there. The 90s took Noel to Brighton where you can hear what it was like working on the frontline of the AIDS crisis, where he would treat people in the day and see them on the scene at night where he worked as a well known DJ ‘the queer on the pier’. Now on his 21st year in Nottingham, he acts as a mentor for his community and is now affectionally known as ‘Dame Mama Noel’. We talk about what life was like then and now, how Grindr has changed the scene, saunas and cruising grounds.
