Not impressed

Good combo on paper, but first episode didn’t quite work.
Was hoping for an interesting debate, but think Rickys enthusiasm got the better of him and he took over the episode and didn’t let Sam Harris speak as much as would have liked.
Was waiting for the other episodes, but have just seen you have to pay for them! Not worth it in my opinion.

Are you having a laugh? Is he having a laugh?

Ain’t nobody gonna pay for this when you can get podcasts for free. What are you doing, Ricky? You pioneered the podcast and now you’re just doing a dump all over it by being greedy af.

Ricky is great

He’s true to himself and that’s what’s great . All you woke people that don’t get it , probably were the kinda kids that never read labels , and drank bleach . In fact most people should have to apply for licence before they have kids .

Could have been good

Ricky, let the expert be the expert. I think there’s only so long you can have this level of ego, in this ‘new world’. And I’m a fan! Just be a bit softer. A bit warmer, a bit less of a know it all, and be a bit more ready to listen to your guest. On the strength of this I won’t pay, but will keep checking in to see if it gets better.

Another RG triumph

I’m probably biased because I love everything Ricky Gervais in involved in. He’s like the McDonald’s franchisee of comedy… “Guaranteed success” 👍

UGH..

A racist and a transphobe, with no chemistry, having a wee chat. It's even worse than you'd think.

It's OK , but there are better conversations

Mildly amusing , but to ask for payment for this series of chats is a joke in itself. Too much other stuff more worthy of your time.

The pay system annoys me

I thought the first episode was good but the pay for the rest is annoying I’m not paying my money for some pretty good comedy podcast when I can listen to others arguably better for free.
Not worth the pay, one star.

Disappointing

Promises a lot but fails to deliver. Shame since I absolutely love Ricky’s TV shows.

Ricky goes to far

I love a lot of rickys work but this is just him talking trash... if you want him to exsplain jokes and pontificate again then sure.

An absolutely brilliant meeting of minds!

A light-hearted and humorous look at some of the deepest philosophical questions we might all ponder from time to time… and some we might not! 2 guys, different paths, same inquisitive minds. Do yourself a favour and listen to this - it’s informative and side splittingly funny. What more do you need?!

This could’ve been very informative

The guest is there to share information but he is not able to even get a word out! So disappointing how this interesting topic turned into a mishmash of comedy non sense 2 minutes into the podcast.

From Karl to Sam

There is some wisdom here in amongst the Inanity, and a few through provoking discussions, however I would recommend Sam’s Waking Up App and His podcast Making Sense if you’re interested in more in depth discussions that don’t devolve into Sam having the head of a dog.
I agree that perhaps Ricky goes on a bit in this podcast as others have mentioned, he also tends to lose the thread of Sam’s argument which defeats the thread of the point they’re trying to make and often makes the exact opposite point. But hey ho… it’s Ricky, you’re entertained or you’re not. And there is entertainment here.
What’s most interesting is that Ricky has decided that Sam is his latest “Karl Pilkington” endlessly playing “would you rather” games. I guess Ricky was bored and decided that a leading intellectual was his best bet to ask stupid questions to. I don’t imagine we’ll see signs that say Sam Harris has the head of a F**k**ng Orange.

Sam has a lot of patience

I love Ricky, he’s hilarious, insanely clever, but when people don’t let other people talk or answer the question, it’s disappointing. Would love to hear more of Sam in future episodes.

A Gervais monologue

This made me realise how egotistical Ricky Gervais is.
He doesn’t let Sam Harris speak, instead we get his constant interruptions and his graceless, brainless and uninformed speculation.
An absolute bell end.

Good concept spoilt

It’s a shame, because the first minute or so led me to think that Gervais and Harris had hit upon a winning formula. That is, Gervais embraces his inner-child to ask of a neuroscientist those almost impossible questions that come so easily to the child’s mind, whilst also keeping the show lively, offsetting the dulcet tones of Harris’ interesting explanations of what is currently known about dreams. Unfortunately, Gervais cannot keep his inner-child reigned in. We barely get to hear Harris’ response to the first question, and titular topic of the episode. Instead of making use of Harris’ expertise to learn about something, his responses are swamped by Gervais’ stumbling interruptions down random tangents into off the cuff speculations, leading us further and further away from the original subject. Ricky seems only to be interested in his own answers, and to get a word in Harris’ has to resort to asking the questions. Some of this has its place in the podcast, but as it stands it’s far, far too dominant and I’m actually surprised they released this episode, especially as the series debut.
Perhaps in the later episodes Gervais can contain himself. Maybe one day we’ll try the podcast again to find out, but I think that my wife and I found this debut too frustrating to find out any time soon.

In which one of the world's foremost thinkers talks incessantly while Sam Harris struggles to get a word in edgeways.

Ricky’s Ego Strikes Again

This is isn’t a conversation about dreaming. It’s not even a conversation. It’s an echo chamber for Ricky to tell anecdotes.
Would love to hear more from Sam if he got the chance.

It’s not what we want and we probably never will get that.

I like a lot of Rickys work but I feel like this podcasts since The Ricky Gervais show have all been a little bland. Without other comedians / funny friends with him, Ricky can come across rather annoying and less entertaining than we would like. Despite him not wanting to, a reunion with Merchant and Pilkington would be eaten up a lot happier than things like this. Even if it’s just for a one off fan celebration show. That’s all we really want, right? For thoes interested, Karl has appeared on The Two Shots Podcast and he’s fantastic on that.

Rubbish

I understand that jokes can be perhaps objectively good and it’s hard work, involving logic, to construct them.
But an experienced comedian and actor, who deserves all the plaudits, who worked so hard on personas and timing, makes no mention of delivery, the way they tell’em?
Fab podcast. Thank you.

It's just Ricky waffling on

Ricky asks a pretty interesting question, but never gets a good answer since the other guy can't get a word in. Some interesting points but only worth subscribing to if you love Ricky talking for half an hour. And not very coherently at that.

Great and fresh content

Fantastic idea to connect comedian with intellectual.
It’s kind of bold move to charge for new content straight away, but I can’t be arsed to complain, since I’ve paid more for Godzilla vs King Kong movie and found it as less entertaining

Interesting but not worth paying for.

Just listened to the first episode which was really interesting, only to find out you have to pay for the other episodes. Don’t get me wrong, I like to support content creators, but this is way overpriced and it’s not like Ricky needs the money.

Interesting, funny and thought provoking

The sort of conversations I have with my mates played out by two guys that are funnier and more intelligent! Well worth a listen if you want a break from the world for just a moment and you might learn something. Or maybe not, who cares I like it.

Great stuff... but.

Podcast is amazing, really funny. Only issue is that both hosts seem to have a ‘noise gate’ being applied to them which makes the audio abruptly ‘cut off’ the moment they stop talking. It’s quite annoying to listen to as it sounds like ‘dead space’ between breaths almost like someone is pausing the show for a split second between breaths.

Hilarious

Listen to this if you want to hear the funniest joke ever told 😂
Coming from Sam’s Making Sense podcast, I’ve found this show to be just as insightful. It’s a breath of fresh air listening to these two.

Missing Dilkington

It’s like Ricky has abandoned his mates and gone all ‘la-de-da’ - 5 stars if this had Karl dilkington, $15 is steep for a set of podcasts, monkey news. I didn’t laugh out loud once like the old audio stuff but that probably isn’t the point.

Like chatting with a couple of very funny smart pals

I’m a huge fan of Sam’s Making Sense podcast and really enjoyed Ricky’s Netflix series Afterlife which covers some of these themes. So as friends already, it feels natural that they’d be discussing this stuff anyway. It’s just great that we get to listen in.
I’m on episode 5 already and it’s thought-provoking and funny and like all the best podcasts feels like sitting down chatting with a couple of your friends - albeit ones who are much funnier and clever than you are. Let’s hope for a second series!

Two of the most important people

In a world that seems to be going increasingly bonkers, the voice of reason gets drowned out. I can’t think of two better people to listen to in order to help stay sane.

Was looking for a new podcast for my runs and found this. Anything in which Ricky gervais laughs is worth a listen but here he gets a scientific slant on the questions we all don’t know we want to know. You know?
