Description

Everyone needs a bank of inspiration. Everyone has loves and passions, across different aspects of life and culture. These are the things that enrich and sustain our lives. During this current climate we have increasingly realised what we treasure most – and much of it is related to art, film, music, stories, culture, sport, play, food, drink, and our most precious memories.
In this podcast, Alan Davies talk to mavericks and visionaries, storytellers and comedians, entrepreneurs and artists from around the world and asks them: What do you value most? What influences you? What inspires you? Who shaped you as a person? What are your seven pillars of wisdom?

Really love the way Alan speaks with his guests and considers their memories and favourite things. The seven pillars is a clever concept as it gives the chance for the guests, some of which we know much about through other interviews or podcasts, to give a new insight into their lives. Please do more!

Wonderful podcast

Love Alan, love this concept. One bugbear is the way the adverts are spread out and badly cut in interrupting the guests mid sentence

I am not a football fan. I saw some hooliganism at the age of nine and thought, this is not for me. So when I saw the list of podcast guests, this was the one that interested me least.
However, my mind is blown. Lost in Translation, Jeeves and Wooster, Camera Obscura, The Fall, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Head Over Heels by the Cocteau Twins.
What a top man you are Pat Nevin. Thanks Alan.

Great discovery!

Only just found this, it’s brilliant joyful and thought provoking. Every time I listen I find myself thinking of my own seven pillars and my mind wonders for the rest of the day of favourite things in my life! Love Alan’s gentle questioning .

Love this podcast it’s insightful, high brow without being poncy and above it self. You get lots of reccs and learn lots about both guest and host. No pillar is too low brow so u don’t feel stupid for your likes but also learn some absolutely incredible things.

The same eleven people that have saturated everything for the last 3 years, being themselves. It’s actually tolerable. I’ve given it five stars because I couldn’t give it a PhD

Very insightful, lots of recommendations of things to watch, read etc. Alan Davies has a nice relaxed interviewing style. I accidentally gave this a one star rating thinking you tapped the stars individually, sorry! Have now given it five stars :)

Usually these type of podcasts are either under researched or the presenter is a sycophant ,these are neither.
The guests are very eclectic ranging from indie music loving ex footballer Pat Nevin to the fascinating Jay Parini.
Highly recommended.

I have always enjoyed Alan’s chats with friends in his series As Yet Untitled. This podcast is a beautiful extension of those chats; Alan is so gentle in his interviewing style, sharing his experiences which encourages the guest to give a little more than the framework of Seven Pillars. I have told friends about the podcast. I am looking forward to hearing the future guests as I really enjoyed the first three.
Thanks Alan 😃

Alan Davies is a great interviewer. I follow him on the hilarious Arsenal podcast The Tuesday Club. This new podcast has great guests, who cover a wide range of interesting topics personal to them. A very good listen.

I have always admired Alan and in this series, his skill as a conversationalist is completely engaging. It’s quite an art when speaking to others, to resist the temptation to interrupt the other person’s response or flow.
I’m a big fan of Walton Goggins and hoped I wouldn’t be disappointed. I needn’t have worried, he is charming and generous of spirit. The time flew by - I could have listened for longer.

Great Conversations

It’s very difficult to do anything original in the podcast interview format but from listening to the first few of these, I think Alan Davies has done something great.
I think the difference is that Alan is so engaged. He has gone through and listened, watched and researched all the items that his guests pick and it really makes a difference in the conversation. So it’s a real conversation rather than a one way interview situation.
As well as this, the format of the pillars draw things out of the guests that they might not talk about during standard interviews, which makes it all the more interesting.
I had never heard of Walton Goggins, but was one of the most interesting interviews I’ve heard in a long time. Great show!

A great show.

I was delighted to discover this podcast. Alan Davies is a great comedian, he is also the perfect host for this show. He has such an easy going and respectful demeanour as he chats with his guests that it draws you in and you almost feel like you are part of the conversation.

I am a 66-year old grandma of 7, and would LOVE to be besties with these two guys! I have long admired lovely Alan Davies on QI, and stand-up too, naturally. But now, have fallen equally in love with Romesh. How beautifully he spoke of his wife, children, his lovely Mum and slightly tricky Dad; the sensitivity and honesty without emotional sentimentality. Have watched Romesh’s antics with his mate Rob Beckett (also
Love him) and listened to him on Rob’s podcast with Josh Widdicombe, and recall him laughing with them as much as talking. So was lovely enjoying this long discourse with Alan. Will listen to this episode again, for sure, and other episodes up- coming (I think Jo Brand is due as a guest?? Please include dear Stephen Fry too!). Overall then - terrific! Thanks Boys 💜

Super interesting chat from Romesh and Alan! Loved Romesh’s selection of ‘pillars’ and heartfelt honesty about his Dad. I even ended up watching Kayno at the RAH on YouTube. 🙌🏼
