Why slow is smooth, and smooth is fast.
"I love to work at pace. I talk at pace. I am all like go, go, go," says @Caroline Frankum, the former Global CEO of Kantar's Profiles division, "but sometimes you really need to slow down to go faster – and in times of pressure, slowing down the process is really important."
"Pressure is always going to be there. It is really about how you deal with it in a structured way," she adds, "and that sometimes means pausing – which is the thing I had to learn."
Caroline's approach to pressure has been shaped by personal experience  (more on that in our conversation) and senior leadership roles at Kantar, Hall & Partners, the Mirror Group, ITV, UKTV, Disney and Sky.
"You have to find the thing that works for you to get your mind into a calmer state. Then you are in a place where you can make a confident decision. Until you get there, you will react rather than respond."
I loved talking to Caroline, she really is a powerhouse and there is a lot more to our conversation. Listen here.
Each month the Better Under Pressure podcast explores how leaders really experience pressure, respond to it and lead others through it for positive outcomes.

The importance of conversation

I’ve listened to a number of the episodes, all of which have so many important nuggets. Sara is a powerfully calm host, encouraging rich conversation. It was such a joy to be a part of this podcast, such important topics to share around human leadership.

Great podcast!

I thoroughly enjoy Sara’s podcasts, she is a fantastic host and has some amazing guests! I just take so much away from their conversations and it has really helped to understand how to better deal with pressures, whether that’s at home or at work or both! Having just returned from maternity leave into full time work, I have found this podcast very inspirational and a great tool to better deal with challenges in the workplace - for instance we all have a inner voice that we need to manage (whether that’s ‘pessimist Paula’, ‘judgy Janet’ or the character I invented ‘not good enough Nora’) and Sara discusses these things with great ease and clarity for the listener to take away and ponder over
- definitely recommend !

Take time to really listen

Sara’s podcast is amazing time for reflection . I love how she summarizes the conversations inbetween and highlights many insights that come up.
I keep on relistening to her episodes as I feel how insights land in my body and in my life.
It made me reflect on how I handle pressure and how I thrive under pressure and when pressure sent me into rebellious action!
Thank you, Sara, for providing this amazing space and those wonderful perspectives in such eloquent language

Galvanising force for good!

I love Sara’s mission to channel pressure and intensity in a healthy, positive way to create magic. Her own experience living in the pressure cooker, as a teacher and a leader is credible and inspiring. The episodes are full of practical tips and healthy challenges. I really enjoyed her latest episode with Matt C, highlighting the importance of great teachers, leaders, coaches and mentors to “call us forward”. Finding someone who sees your potential and believes in you so much, that your own belief in self amplifies as a force for good. And us becoming that person for someone else. Thank you for the reminder.

Insightful, practical and inspiring

Great series in general - loved the Seb Bates episode in particular. As he says, we can be much cleverer than simply trying to avoid pressure situations - and from a position of some serious experience he gives clear, practical tips. Each episode offers a unique perspective, and Sara expertly précis the key learning at regular intervals. Highly recommended.

It is such a pleasure and honour to be in the presence of such an intelligent and warm hearted woman and her impactful guests. I can’t believe I can get this level of insight and information for free. What a great time we live in. No university training can give you what these conversations hold. Infectious energy, depth and never a dull moment.

Brilliantly insightful conversations!

There is a real honesty to these conversations which allows for a richness of content that you can truly relate to. I tend to listen whilst I’m out walking and often find myself stopping and pausing the recording whilst I note down an insightful comment or observation that I don’t want to forget! Sara has a lovely coaching style which allows those she is talking to, to really explore each question with an intimacy that makes you feel like you’re chatting with friends over coffee!

Amazing

As a newbie to podcasts this one really grabbed me. I listened To the first five minutes, got completely lost in the podcast and before I knew it, it was finished and I was searching for more episodes. I couldn’t believe how much I could relate and how this amazing podcast opened my mind. I can’t help but to start thinking bigger and digging deeper into my mindset and behaviours. I really enjoyed the realness of this talk between Sara and Paula. Hearing different techniques and perspectives is truly inspirational and invaluable. I am intrigued to learn more about myself and others along the way. I cannot wait to share this podcast with friends and family to see what positive impact it can have on their lives too. Would highly recommend.

Love her calm voice and the attention she gives to the guest!

Loved this episode, can’t wait for more to come. There is something about Sara’s calm but excited voice, and in her care for the guest that makes you want to listen more. I love the way she puts “pressure” as the main subjects, but brings the guest’s story as the centre of it. Amazing way of making people realise that there are many ways of handling pressure!

Real world expertise and compassion

I love Sara Milne Rowe’s combination of practical, applicable advice and boundless positivism. The fact that her first focus is the foundations - sleep, drink plenty of water, exercise, and eat for health - says it all. Great advice that makes sure you are getting the basics right, and builds from there. Fascinating podcast from an inspiring woman.

Essential listening for business

Sara is masterful at asking the right question at the right time. She also takes her guests into the parts of leadership that aren’t frequently talked about, but are so useful for leaders to hear about. If you’re looking for ways to alchemise pressure into fuel, do your career (and life) a favour, and tune in. Highly recommended.
