This week we're talking about Imposter Syndrome and why, if you've ever felt like the odd one out, you're in good company.
Join us on an Inception-like head-scratcher as we experience Imposter Syndrome whilst talking about Imposter Syndrome in an attempt to make the episode "good enough", learn why tennis remains Elizabeth's Achilles heel and why Emma will never have a job as a pizza chef.

Insightful and warming

This podcast feels like one of those brilliant conversations you have with a best friend who knows you inside out. Fascinating and really thought-provoking. Elizabeth also sounds similar to one of my best friends and I fancy myself as a bit of a therapist 😜 A part of me (my child!?) gets excited when a new episode pops up. Not that you need my validation…but I find this podcast a really insightful, authentic and fascinating listen. Thank you ladies for letting us be a fly on the wall!

A lovely place to spend some time

Thanks for these podcasts. I’ve listened to the first two and they’re so warm, easy to listen to, packed with wisdom and useful takeaways. I listened to the first one twice because it was so relevant to me! Thank you again 🌼

Sincere, genuine and full of valuable thoughts

I’m not given to reviewing podcasts but this one stands out from the increasingly large crowd of podcasters. This podcast is a genuine exchange between two friends with diverse expertise and life experiences. It’s original, laced with humour, warmth for one another and really valuable thoughts for listeners to take away and apply to our own lives. Thoroughly enjoyable.

Brilliant

I love this podcast. If you’re a fan of How to Fail, you’re likely to also love this one. It’s two friends talking about things that all of us are concerned with at one point of our lives or another. Simply brilliant.

Like sitting around the table with your friends!

Thank you so much Elizabeth and Emma for setting up this podcast. It is so relatable and so useful to hear you speak and theorise in this way. Episode two was great- much of my own relationship journey is similar to Elizabeth’s and I connect so much with being on top of my game at work etc but failing at romantic relationships.

Sensible, honest conversation about mental health

As a fan of Elizabeth Day’s ‘How to Fail’ podcast, I made a beeline for Best Friend Therapy.
One of the hardest things I’ve found as I’ve become more self aware and conscious of my own feelings in real time is not being able to access proper mental health care services.
Our healthcare system is running on fumes and mental health needs — like most others — are most often addressed by those with the means to pay out-of-pocket.
This podcast is not a substitute for formal counselling, but it does help alleviate some of the feelings of hopelessness about ever being able to ‘get better.’
I look forward to each new episode.

Relatable, insightful, intelligent and funny conversations that I wish I’d heard 25 years ago. I didn’t think it could get better than How to Fail but this is a contender. Podcast gold, thank you ladies.

Thought provoking

Loved this so much I wanted to immediately go back and listen again.
So much to mull over and think about. I’m v bad at setting boundaries esp with work & then get frustrated when they impinge on my own time (when every time I deal with this).
I cannot wait for my sister to listen to this as I so want to discuss our family dynamics and boundaries.
Especially important was not letting friends etc have to guess your boundaries. I have a friend in one of my friendship groups that is v clear on limiting when she sees us when her husband is home (he works away a lot). It works, we know and respect them.
Can’t wait for the rest of this podcast.

Thank you

I really needed to hear this chat today. I want to work on my invisible boundaries, to have enough courage to say no to things without having to always explain myself. I think the hardest thing is my desire to control how
other people perceive me. I think that’s the root of my people pleasing and lack of boundaries at times… when really I also want to get the early train home with an M&S meal deal. You ladies sound gorgeous together.

Brilliant pod cast

I’ve just listened to the first episode of this new podcast. I’m a keen listener of Elizabeth Day’s podcast “How to Fail” and love that, so thought this would be good. I really enjoyed this - it was interesting, funny, insightful and informing. I will take away that “ A boundary is where two differences meet!) Brilliant!!! Look forward to the rest!! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

A sad listen

I felt quite sad coming away from this first episode about boundaries. It felt so out of touch - on what planet can a builder/cleaner say “no” to their boss? And how could on earth would it be fair to “exert my boundaries” in respect of my crying children/very elderly parents? It seemed there was no awareness of the duties we have to those with less than us, or that it is right to care for those who have given so much to us when they need help. Is the purpose of life, particular as very wealthy white women, really just to serve our own needs?

Funny and insightful - a perfect mix

I really loved this. Elizabeth is a brilliant interviewer and Emma is so good at explaining why we do the things we do. You can tell they’re really comfortable with each other which makes it such an easy listen.
I listened to the first episode while out a walk and burst out laughing at one stage because I resonated so much with Emma’s views on boundaries - it was so refreshing to hear someone say you’re allowed to just not want to do certain things! I will definitely be following every week!

Loved the first ep so much..

…that I didn’t want it to end! Love How to Fail & Please Yourself so this was a dreamy combo. I’ve only discovered the idea of having boundaries in the last year or so and my goodness… game changer. Great 40 mins spent giving examples, benefits & tips on asserting boundaries - which ultimately lead to more genuine relationships. Thanks guys & catch you next week! 🥳

Fascinating!

I soaked all of this up, found it fascinating to hear and think about the way boundaries change, whether we do/don’t have to communicate them. When we flex them etc. SO much to unpack, I loved it!! Can’t wait for more!

Fab!!

I’m a fan of ‘How to fail’ so you had me at Elizabeth Day!! What a bonus having ERT as co-host. I’m a massive fan of boundaries ( was previously a therapist myself) so this was such an interesting episode for me. Your relationship seems so open and reflective, I’m envious. I was let down by my best friend ( and my husband - I’ll let you do the math 😶) some years ago and have only recently felt able to trust someone enough to allow her into my life as a really close friend.
I’m really looking forward to this series and eagerly await the next episode. Xx

New favourite podcast

I’m a big fan of Elizabeth Days’ podcast How to Fail, so I knew this was going to be my sort of thing. But I wasn’t quite prepared for how many “aha!” moments I would have listening to this first episode. Elizabeth is such a brilliant interviewer and she and Emma have managed to strike the perfect note between maintaining the energy and flow in their dialogue that comes from being close friends in real life, and remaining inclusive of the listener. This episode on boundaries gave me a lot of food for thought whilst also just being thoroughly enjoyable to listen to. I can wholeheartedly recommend.
