Carrie Jade Does Not Exist is the story of how one woman, who took on over six different identities, infiltrated the lives of vulnerable people, and lied her way into gaining their trust. This six-part series hosted by Sue Perkins and journalist Katherine Denkinson will tell the story of how Carrie built up a picture-perfect persona and scammed her way into the literary world until she finally got tangled up in her very own web of lies.

I really cannot get along with the host who interjects way too much of her own opinion.

Love the pod but please stop using Better Help as a sponsor!
Better Help don’t do thorough checks on the therapists working. The therapists earn minimum wage per hour and do not have sufficient supervision.
It is an unethical practice and can be a risk to those in acute mental distress.

Engaging Story and Brilliantly Narrated
Having only discovered this podcast in 2024, I am somewhat late to the party. I can only say, however, that I thoroughly enjoyed the story relayed here. Sue Perkins is an excellent host and incredibly funny — there were numerous occasions where I actually laughed out loud, thereby incurring some rather bemused stares from members of the public. It was worth the descent into public ridicule, as I was utterly hooked by the endlessly erratic nature of this woman’s activities (which I will refrain from spoiling here).
Sue, please consider lending your talents to other podcasts, as your manner is so well-suited to the form. At the risk of sounding like a brown-nosing sycophant, you are one of the best hosts I have encountered during my foray into true crime podcasts.

Scamanda for the UK
Just discovered in 2024 😱

Bit underwhelmed
I am a bit underwhelmed with the latest episode as their trying to empathise with the fraudster and try to be balanced. But it’s just really poorly done and I’m not sure why they bothered with this latest episode as it’s just telling us she’s has faked her identity again. But no real new news.

Could have been so much better
I normally love Sue Perkins but the delivery and convo between the two hosts feels forced and disingenuous. Also leans into the mumsnet tabloid outrage that better investigative podcasts tend to avoid. I’d guess Sue bought the rights to a Vice article and the journalist insisted on being a part of the podcast which has led to it feeling a bit wooden. Good story but could be way better made.

Disappointing
Good researching but poor storytelling. Their conversations sound inauthentic and unbalanced. Their attempts to empathise and understand why this individual did what she did are painful to listen to. We should have the facts and any discussion about mental illness and trauma should be left to the experts

Intriguing story but poor storytelling
Intriguing story but poor storytelling. I worry, too, about the impact that sensationalism like this will have on people who are genuinely disabled, trying to be believed.

A story that needs to be told
Well done ladies, enjoyed this intriguing and well produced story. I don’t doubt that there will be an update soon as I am sure that this tale has not yet ended.

Gripping and intriguing - a look into who Carrie Jade could be
As someone who came across Carrie Jade’s moving story on TikTok and was appalled by how someone could treat a disabled person. I was then surprised to find out about the history of this individual. Initially I was sceptical that Carrie Jade could possibly have been the same person and also I was so sure that Carrie Jade couldn't possibly have created such an elaborate ruse.
I was very wrong.
More information emerged about Carrie, and it all became a lot of unsubstantiated gossip and unclear what was actually true. It was important not to be swept up in the hysteria or participate in a witch hunt.
Then this podcast was released. Well! This changed the landscape on everything we know about this young woman who seems o have fascinated half of Britain and Ireland! The podcast couldn't be released quick enough and I found myself listening while cleaning and actually desperate for the next on to be released.
Carrie has done so much in her adult life which is concerning and she has put so many in danger. Safeguarding concerns should have been raised but she appeared trustworthy. She shows us a cautionary tale on why we always follow procedure.
Listen to this if you work with children, vulnerable people or in health. It will open your eyes.

Intriguing
This was so well produced & narrated, really enjoyed this good quality podcast, I still had lots of questions!!

The word ‘absolutely’ used in just about every sentence
Great topic. Interesting. Well presented but I have had to stop listening as the word ‘absolutely’ is being used in just about every section.
It absolutely does, it absolutely is…. Ugh

Mental health…
Thoroughly enjoyed the podcast. Disagree with some of the other reviews. I like the fact that the hosts could empathise with the subject’s mental health issues, while simultaneously being horrified by the acts she committed. It was informative and well put together.

I’m totally OBSESSED!!
Brilliant journalism… so much stuff uncovered. I need another series. I had to listen to this in one go.
I won’t spoil it for anyone… but her obsession with kids now makes sense … and should be a concern for the future.

Where are the last two episodes?
I really enjoyed this, especially Sue’s presenting. I keep checking for the last two episodes, but nothing.

Bad.
Others have been quite succinct and on point with their reviews. This is nothing more than tabloid garbage. Exploiting victims in the name of a trite podcast.
If Sue Perkins wasn’t annoying enough, she really ups the ante here.
2023-12-23
Not Particularly Balanced
The story telling itself is not bad but I really disliked their faux attempt at making understanding mental illness. I’m not excusing what she did by any means but it was really irritating when they kept saying “I completely sympathise with mental health, (despite addressing mental illness not mental health) depression and anxiety are really hard” These are not the be and end all of mental illness. I really feel given they are giving a “holier than thou” take on true crime podcasts, they should at the bare minimum have more experts advising on the actual story - especially psychologists/psychiatrists)

Poor, exploitative, tabloid
This is very poor storytelling. Takes ages to even work out what it’s about. It revels in it too which gives off air of exploitativeness making me feel really uncomfortable listening. What are the makers getting out of it? It feels very tabloid. Hate all the faux attempts at balance. As the makers were really going to give the other side any equal treatment. Those calls are a waste of airtime for the sake of it. All a lesson in how not to make compelling radio/audio

Stop saying “absolutely”!
Amazing story, well-edited with good music and thoughtful sound design. But Katherine Denkinson cannot help starting each sentence with “ABSOLUTELY” or “she/he ABSOLUTELY did”. Renders this potentially amazing podcast a tough one to endure.
2023-12-18
Great hosts.
Easy to listen to Sue plus very interesting podcast where we also hear the victims stories. Would like to hear more like this. Only negative is the slightly annoying adverts on this one.

Worth a listen
Really great story and Sue especially was amazing, but really dragged it out
2023-12-14
Thoroughly enjoyed it.
Sue and Kat are both great. I don’t agree that Kat sounds like a schoolgirl reading from a script; I think she’s done a grand job at investigating the story, and comes across as very sweet and knowledgeable.
MORE, PLEASE!

It’s in the title
It’s a bit like listening to a joke when you already know the punchline.
The fact that this woman harmed so many people makes the listening not only pointless but distressing. Why bother?

Good example of BBC podcasts at their best
The standard of BBC podcasts has been declining recently. This is a quality one though. Good host, told very well and no repetitive faff

Fabulous show
Absolutely love this podcast
Listen to them all together as I couldn’t wait to hear the next episode.
It’s fascinating and so well written
A big fan of Sue from bake off days
She’s is fantastic in this series
Recommend it to all my sisters who listen to it all together like i did
Many thanks ladies

Just ok
Interesting story, but told over too many episodes in my opinion. Sue sounded very natural but Katherine unfortunately sounded like she was reading off a script.
2023-12-09
Absolutely Overload
There are other options in the English language to the word absolutely.
2023-12-09
Really intriguing
I really enjoyed listening to this. I enjoyed Sue Perkins and Katherine Denkinson and I listened to the whole lot in two days once I discovered it after all the episodes were already love. It did feel it ended abruptly and without resolution but I guess that’s the truth of a case where the person has disappeared. I expect in the future she will reappear and another identity will be revealed.
2023-12-07
Unsure?
The story is interesting but it struggling with this a bit. There are quite a lot of harsh edits and I guess this might be the risk with journalistic podcasts but questions are often set up in the script only to be closed with “well I couldn’t get in contact with them…” or “we don’t know a huge amount about this but…” It all feels quite speculative.
Obviously exposing scammers like this is important but it’s an odd podcast for sure.
2023-12-06
Disappointing
Slightly lazy podcasting. Re-hatching an article and talking about it. They could have done so much more. Interviews docu style. It’s just two people chatting about one case. Disappointing.
2023-12-05
Fascinating
Really nuanced and interesting
2023-12-04
Fascinating
Absolutely fascinating story that this woman has got away with so much time and time again. I would love to hear her side. Really well written and presented.
2023-12-03
Loved it!
Really enjoyed listening to this. Story was absolutely fascinating and shocking!
I do struggle with Podcasts and find I’m quite fussy. I found Sue Perkins so easy to listen to. More of these types of Podcasts please Sue!
2023-12-03
Fascinating
I’m left with all those questions too ladies…why?!
2023-12-03
Ruined by the co-presenter
Interesting story, albeit spun out over too many episodes as these things always are. Love Sue but sadly the journalist co-presenter ruined this for me - really bad narration that sounded like a school child reading from an essay and lost count of the number of times she said “it absolutely is” or variants thereof.
2023-12-02
It resonates ô too well!
So interesting. Having a disabled brother and seeing how scammers hover over him all the time, this has been a very intense listening for me. I have the feeling that those people are just true psychopaths and I am really struggling to have any empathy towards their life story. I wish the justice system could prevent those actions and protect better our vulnerable population… thank you for sharing this terrifying story.
2023-12-01
Couldn’t get enough of this
Excellent thought provoking podcast - great dive in to the story of how a compulsive liar manipulated and deceived so many. Sue Perkins’ calm collected tone and viewpoints makes this a must listen for true crime aficionados.
2023-11-30
captivating
well written and delivered as well as both hosts being interesting and entertaining. 10/10
2023-11-30
Interesting but stop with ‘Absolutely’!!!
If I drank every time Sues cost host said ‘absolutely’ I’d be in A & E

This is fascinating…
This is a fascinating case which, with each new piece of information, has left me needing to hear more. So far, Carrie Jade is three things - 1. A shameless manipular who preys on the sympathy of others. 2. A victim of the most awful tragedy. 3. A highly talented writer and motivator. Who else is she??
2023-11-28
Good content but narration is terrible!
Why does he pause at strange times during sentences? It’s very difficult to listen to, and ruins a very well written and researched podcast.
2023-11-28
Fantastic
Beautiful story telling, well-researched, warm, empathetic, and personable.
My only criticism would be I am never watching ‘the Lazarus project’. Awful repetitive advert!
2023-11-27
Bit too sensationalist
This could’ve been an interesting story but apparently the creators here didn’t respect victims wishes so I’ve unfollowed and stopped listening.
I also agree with previous reviews that the narration is unfortunately not only inappropriately opinionated but also a bit exhausting in its constantly stating the obvious.
2023-11-27
Enjoyable
This is yet another podcast about a scammer, but loving Sue‘s sensitive reporting style and warm manner, enjoying this very much
2023-11-25
I’m gripped!
Fascinating podcast! Looking forward to next episode.
2023-11-25
Amazing
This is such an amazing podcast
2023-11-25
Dreadful
The constant tinpot psychology throughout is so irritating the story is lost by their constant stating of the obvious
2023-11-24
Fascinating
Very interesting and Sue handles all the delicate issues with great sensitivity
