best philsophy podcast

there are loads of rubbish and a few good philosophy podcasts, this is probably the best out of all them, if what you are after is explanations and details about the most famous philosophers, youwill not find a better podcast than this

Underwhelming

This podcast series isn't all that great. The lack of any change of tone or interest in his voice is the major negative. It just sounds like he's reading 'flash cards' he's made after making notes on his book.

Well written and well delivered...

I'm studying philosophy and find these podcasts to be good reviews to listen to on the go.

Good basic podcast

I like this podcast, it gives me the chance to brush up on my philosophy and try to keep philosophers and their work put netaly on the shelves in my brain. the only reason I gave it 4 and not 5 stars is because the section of the podcast with the critique of the philosophers could be much longer and through.

Fantastic stuff

Everything can be questioned on some front or other, any minor quibbles can be set aside; these podcasts offer bite size insights on some of the greatest thinkers of all time, to have access to these podcasts is a joy.

Nice introduction to the subject and good quality production

Nice introduction to the subject and good quality production. Some complain it's not in depth enough,
but of course he has to make a living, so he probably sells the more advanced and in depth materal, which is fair enough.

Brilliant

It is a series of succint introductions to the CLASSICS that you ought to know. Thoughtful and enjoyable!

Fabulous stuff

For someone like me who has never read much philosophy before, but knows Monty Python by heart, this was an excellent series introducing in brief, lucid segments all those names I had heard about but was otherwise ignorant of.
I must buy the book!

Great Introduction

Understandably perhaps, philosophy's a pretty complex subject- but these podcasts are great for giving the listener the basic ideas behind each of the works discussed. That said, Nigel does manage pack a lot in to each podcast so I find myself going back and listening again; fortunately the ideas are covered in a way which isn't too simplistic or too complex (both of which would put me off!). In short, these are interesting and thought provoking introductions which make a good first step for anyone like me who is new to the subject.

Relentless

Nigel knows his stuff and presents here a 10-12 minute overview of a great philosophical work, each podcast.
Unfortunately, he does not use punctuation whilst speaking so one sentence or paragraph flows into the next creating a relentless, and oftentimes, monotonous listening experience.

A masterpiece- thank you

Well constructed and presented in a clear and concise manner for all budding thinkers. Enjoy...

Great

This podcast comes in twenty minute chunks explaining the basic points of a philosophical work, and any major objections to the ideas put forward. Perfect for a commute, but sometimes I find the overview a little too cursory--but perhaps that's the point.

Good - but technical problems

Arghh! - Hobbe's Leviathan is only 30 seconds long and one of the others cuts off too soon. How frustrating is that? Apart from the elephant in the room, its really good to introduce or remind one of the fyllisoffikall classics.

Basic but interesting

If like me you've always wanted to know a little more about philosophy, but have never quite managed to find a spare year to read Plato, this is a good compromise. I've been listening to them as I've cycled into work. Thought-provoking stuff. There is a limit of course to how far you can go in a 10 or 20 minute mini-lecture to explain whole, dense books, and their criticisms, but this seems to me to capture the basics in a comprehensible way. I hope this will get others to put free educational stuff on itunes too.
