Very useful in this day and age where lies are so easily told and truths are warped… especially by those in power… also good fun to listen to!

9th January article about plastic in the sea didn’t look at the brilliant results by Ocean Cleanup - a crowdfunded project cleaning the 3 biggest polluting rivers of the world to try to stem the flow of plastic into the pacific

Normally a great show but Gabriel gatehouse seemed barely informed of the subject he was talking about. Good job More or Less were there to educate him.

Just listened to the episode on population statistics - fascinating. Anyone interested in further reading should look up Youthquake by Edward Paice - a deep dive into the demographics of Africa.

By far my favourite podcast. I love the blend of humour and serious statistics. It should be put on schools curriculum as an antidote to social media sensationalism.

Your program brings clarity and sense to the numbers (mid)quoted by politicians and journalists. The more people who listen to your program, the more informed the public will become. Keep up the great work.

Usually great podcast but when I heard a recent episode where a Cambridge professor compared covid deaths to heart attacks….I thought, oops someone forgot pandemics are multiplicative processes !!! That’s really pathetic and I hope one day these academics learn.

I love the way this program explains the mathematical reasoning behind aspects of our lives. I find it particularly helpful in the explanations of events in the coronavirus pandemic. Keep up the good work Tim.

Presented in a fun AND serious way. Some of the ideas are complex BUT explained clearly. Live it. Every episode delivers.

Statistics are dry. This isn't. It doesn't just explain numbers in the news but it puts them in context and manages to be fascinating at the same time. Highly recommended.

Fantastic podcast covering interesting topics in a clear, informative way.

Strangely compelling for a lad that hated maths at school.

The older episodes are interesting and factual, providing an impartial view on many topics. The main problem has been the last year 80% of episodes seem to have been about covid. In the rest of most of our lives we cannot escape covid. It’s the small talk topic, it’s never off the news, it effects our lives constantly. So why would I want to sit and listen to someone speak about it when it’s everywhere? A couple of episodes clearing up stuff were useful. However, now it’s practically a covid podcast. Please try to steer away from this obsession.

This should be standard listening for all teachers, students and obviously politicians....fact checking, basic understanding of numbers and perception of data is a vital life skill !

This podcast takes a look at the statistics behind the big news stories and delivers a refreshing dose of clarity. Tim Harford deftly, simply and without bias explains what facts are really telling us, with sometimes surprising results. Genuinely an indispensable public service.

The drowning of a migrant while attempting to cross the channel to gain asylum in the UKis a tragedy irrespective of the individual’s age but it’s highly emotive to refer to him as a child when it was subsequently widely reported that he was actually 28 . This error is disappointing and risks damaging the reputation of what is an excellent programme.

When interrogating numbers given by government (no fan btw) why does TH use a selective context which then enables the show to disparage any official line? For example migrant numbers do not take into account population density, illegal migrants and fact that France in particular let’s migrants pass through when they should seek asylum at the first country? Also loaded terms like welcoming is used when that’s clearly a partial term and sets out the numbers in a biased context? 🤔

Tim eating a huge chunk of humble pie after his mistake went viral just confirmed what a straight program this is.

Every time we’ve been bombarded with statistics and dubious looking graphs my first thought has been that I’d like to hear the More or Less analysis of this. Keep up the good work. No rest for you in lockdown I fear but I wish your programme received a lot more publicity. I’m evangelic about your brilliant programme.

I’ve been a long time listener and I often play this podcast to cheer me up. This should be essential listening for school kids!

I am a long term listener to the podcast version. It is essential listening to make sense of the numbers bandied about by politicians and mainstream news journalists. It brings clarity whilst explaining the real numbers. I think it would be fabulous to have an episode after every news broadcast to explain and clarify the statistical claims in the news.

I’m a long term subscriber to More or Less and think it’s by far the best programme on BBC Radio 4. Whenever I hear someone on the news quoting statistics, More or Less is where I go to get the true picture. It’s so clear and easy to follow - the presenters are just wonderful - I’m constantly amazed and uplifted by the knowledge and expertise of all the contributors and Tim manages to keep a balanced approach throughout. During the pandemic the coverage was of the highest standard and I waited every week to hear the actual numbers behind the political spin. We need more programming of this high standard. More or Less shows how it should be done.

More or less has been unparalleled source of facts on corvid developments, please keep this setoes going through the next few months, corvid is not over & figures given by government need explanations and fact checking as country reopens and the impacts on any growth of infections, and TTIS etc.

Was horrified when the super sane Tim told us end of series. Tim needs a break but we need him now to cast a sceptical and rational eye over the numbers and mercifully not only CV related. Cometh the hour, come the man (and women /fab team) so delighted they have not let us down now we need them more than ever!

Tim said in the beginning of today’s episode that this series may be discontinued. Please don’t do this to us - in the world of increasingly misleading numbers, we need this series more than ever. I would say this podcast is more valuable than the UK govt’s daily Covid briefings, the latter full of shameless statistical trickery.

This used to be the best podcast available. Recently it has taken a clearly political stance and no longer presents statistics in the previously unbiased manner. Sadly this destroys what made it so valuable.

Great facts, topics, well researched and argued. Bit quirky but there’s also important topics too. Nice banter between the hosts.

Only critique would be the constant corona stuff lately, but I guess that’s to be expected
