Love the show! I’m always learning from your episodes which when you finish studying leaves a hole in your life. The volume of the ads scare me each time, I jolt! I do find the ads annoying but completely get why you have them. If you offers a subscription to remove ads I’d probably pay it. Thanks for being great hosts, after listening to you guys for so long I struggle to listen to others!

The content is generally good, although sometimes the topics are annoyingly trivial. The hosts typically do a decent job making the podcast entertaining, but occasionally their digressions can only be described as inane blabber.

I love the easy chemistry of Chuck and Josh, and the wide range of topics they cover. They may not always be the experts but they’re always fun. My one gripe is the way the volume ramps up on the adverts. I like listening to podcasts to help me relax at night and I’ve lost count of the times I’ve started to drift off happily to a SYSK recording before I’m jolted unceremoniously back into a state of alertness by a unpleasant shouty loud ad. Use your inside voice please!

Love the show, hate the ad music!

I love this show and often relisten to episodes when I’m drifting to sleep due to the relaxing and interesting chats, but will be suddenly disturbed by the loud and frankly incongruous music in between ad breaks! Really puts me off!

I never get tired of listening to Josh & Chuck. I listened to the Titanic part 1 & 2 twice.
Easy hour, knowledgeable on their topics, funny, voices easy on the ear....I must confess I do fall asleep sometimes because I find their voices soothing :-)
Keep up the good work guys.

Josh & Chuck are delightful, but if you’re going to go off topic that much, then you really can’t justify taking so many ad breaks. It’s so annoying! I wish they’d do what other podcasts do and put all the ads in the middle (once).
In addition, their research is often myopic, overlooking entire portions of the globe. I was just listening to an episode about break-ups where they couldn’t believe that 15 percent of people, globally, had never been dumped and concluded that these folks had either chosen to live single lives, had found “the one” right off the bat, or had chosen to settle. They seemed completely oblivious to the practice of arranged marriage or that, for many people around the world, marriage and relationships are not a choice.

There are several things that make this a cracking show. However, the highlights for me are the well presented facts and education combined with the heart warming relationship between the presenters. Keep up the good work!

The only reason it's not five stars are the uninteresting personal digressions that pad the episodes openings. It's just warm-up chat and the show would be far better if it was pared down. Or maybe just saved for those occasions when it is exceptionally good? And please stop calling good research 'hippy-dippy' (for example, in ‘Biophilic Design’). It's as bad as using 'nerd' to bully people. The language you use defines how the listener understands the content.

Eiffel Tower - Fear of heights!

Just started listening to your episode on the Eiffel Tower and I just had to come here and say that I developed a fear of heights after walking the stairs to the first floor too! I’ve since done many things to try and cure the fear, including going on the London Eye and going up the Empire State Building. It’s a lot better now, but I found it quite amusing that the Eiffel has induced such a fear in someone else too.
Other than that, love the podcast!

The best thing about this podcast is that after alllll this time, each episode has the same energy and enthusiasm as if it were the first- you can hear it in their voices. Each episode sounds like it’s their favourite subject. Also, I wish they were my friends.

Podcast fluff

 –

2021-02-07
This podcast is fairly entertaining and interesting until you realise a good deal of the “stuff” is not wholly accurate, and this is definitely not the way you should know about it. This was evident to me when I reached episodes the subjects of which I knew a fair bit about. The Easter episode is a good example where they focus on only one tradition, and we get a weird side-bar about Chuck’s personal crisis of faith which really is neither here nor there. Stacked up against the way more thorough & considered “In Our Time”, this really is a fluffy-but more concerningly-inaccurate podcast.
Trying to parse complex subjects in a singular podcast episode is actually very hard to do, so if you do listen to this, I hope you find other sources of valid information to pad out what is offered here, to help develop a more thorough & informed understanding of the topics discussed.

I’ve listened to SYSK for a time now and by the law of averages a number of topics have come up that I already have vast knowledge in. Each time this has happened the inaccuracies have been huge, this makes me wonder how inaccurate are the episodes based on subjects I have no or little previous knowledge in. While Josh is quite witty, Chuck has an almost cowardly obsession with not offending anyone. Grow a pair and have an opinion that isn’t that of a wet napkin.

The “review” by Hmmmmm further down the page is clearly written by a self important millennial. Why would you “feel” like Chuck “would definitely” (a contradiction by the way) “mansplain” to you in a bar and get “70% wrong”? First off, mansplaining is a word used only my individual intellectually inferior women who feel insecure and lash out when any man explains something. Explaining is a word, “mansplaining” is an example of how self aggrandising people have become; the sheer rage at being explained something by a man!!! How dare Chuck explain anything when he had reproductive organs on the outside of his body?! Also, the assumption that a man must of course want to have any interaction with you in a bar or otherwise clearly says a lot about your arrogance. In addition, you chose to listen to a man explaining a topic and then become angered by it... grow up, get over yourself and take your sexist remarks to an audience who cares to enjoy the distasteful blend of stupidity and self indulgence to which you’ve evidently become so accustomed to.
P.S I love the podcast, I won’t explain why because like Chuck...I don’t have Ovaries.

This is a fantastic and thoughtful podcast. It’s interesting and funny without being obnoxious. Josh Clarke has the most soothing voice and speech patterns and the whole family asks for it when we’re in the car together.
But, the sound balance is off and it really is irksome. Josh and Chuck are excellent podcasters but the music and ads have the volume whacked up and it is very jarring. Would be perfect to listen to before bed if it didn’t jolt you every few minutes.

I love this podcast. There are some discrepancies and I would never believe every single part is 100% correct, but I find each topic fascinating mostly. I used to listen to every episode but now I just download episodes that interest me. Even after so long, both hosts seem to enjoy making the podcast which i cannot say the same for other long standing podcasts. Love it x

I can’t even review it as it was so poor and so US American, do you guys get taught so little about the rest of the world that you don’t realise Russia stretches all the way across from theBaltic Sea to the Bearing Straights ( that’s next door to Alaska) passing China on the way but that’s just the start, I think I now know why, when I watch the news, I can see how screwed you guys are ( but by no means all of you )

Hi guys, love the show. I listen to it all the time. I’ve got to say something about the sheer repetition of advertising for your new book! It’s just constant! Yes you need to advertise, I know this. But dial it back some will you? I’ve just been working at my desk for the last two hours and I’ve heard that advert atleast ten times!

I enjoy this podcast, but when I listen to an episode on a subject that I have any expertise in, the inaccuracies are obvious and troubling. I like that this podcast encourages people to be interested in the world and learn more... but wouldn’t consider any episode to be accurate or correct.

Massive shout out to Josh and Chuck. Listening to these guys is like hanging out with my big brothers - wise cracks, so much knowledge and sharing hopes, ideas and history. Not only is this show informative and fun but it’s kept me going through 2020 so far. I run a hospital in England and these guys have been there through the dark days, keeping me cheerful with a little light relief in the hard times. They don’t know it but they’ve kept me and my staff sane and doing what we need to for our patients to be safe. Recommend anyone young or old giving this show a listen, I defy you not to love it!

I never thought I’d see Stuff You Should Know follow the anti-western self flagellation lot down the Social Justice route. It’s a dead end. It’s the antithesis of knowledge. They cynically remake every field of research they know in their likeness and they are assimilating Josh and Chuck!
Save Stuff You Should Know! Save it it from the endless demands to apologise for being alive, made by those who accuse of bias while modelling themselves on the very definition of bias and partisanship.
