If you are starting out or brushing up this has some healthy tips! However Forbes can get annoying and just chats for the sake of chatting! Perfect for digital users, however would be great for more analog tips and cameras! I find his advice on career in photography outdated and cliched. Some great tips and some annoying chitter chatter! I think its that over enthusiastic American presenter that can get on your nerves after a while!

Where have you gone?

This used to be one of the very best photography podcasts and was always a “must watch” but, very sadly, along with it’s rise in popularity it’s lost something.
Like an edgy and talented rock band who eventually get “discovered” - the success swamps the creativity and freshness and then it's just “another band”. In much the same way Art of Photography has become just "another podcast”; contrived and rather empty when compared to it’s former self.
The Art of Photography has become a pastiche of the highly influential Casey Niestat’s style and methods, using jumpy editing and music cliches with too much repetition and empty technique in place of solid, meaningful and interesting content. One of the very worst examples of this is the “iPhone X: Deeper Pixels” episode) which severely tempted me to unsubscribe. The music and editing techniques are so obvious and in your face that they smother the real content.
Sadly The Art of Photography has become a victim of it’s own success and Ted Forbes has resorted to well produced style over substance and it often feels like watching a taped episode of a game show over and over.
No longer fresh and interesting The Art of Photography is just "another podcast" that I’ll watch occasionally

If you are into photography and are interested in understanding the art and craft behind it rather than getting the latest gear review, then this podcast is for you. Ted is someone who knows his subject incredibly well and manages to share his knowledge in a relaxed and genuine manner that is never condescending but always encouraging and inspiring. There really is something here for every level of photographer and lover of photographs.

Great show, I especially like how Ted talks about aspects of photography that other shows don't often cover. It's not all about new gear that most people cannot afford. I just want to know how I can get the best out of what I have and how I can improve my technique etc. Ted does a great job at getting you thinking about these aspects. Keep up the good work.

Over the past year or so I have been following this podcast, I first came across the name of Ted Forbes from another photographer on twitter. Who, suggested I should follow Ted Forbes and tune into this weekly podcast. I have to say I love Teds' presentation it's very concise and informative in an informal manner.
This is what makes it so enjoyable, he is a person who is passionate about photography as much as the rest of us, and in particular he has reignited my love of developing my own film and prints! He may not realize it, but Ted your warmth and generosity really shine though, thanks for sharing your knowledge of such a wonderful craft.

Having only recently discovered the podcasts put out by Ted Forbes I can only say that I wish I had found them years ago. Since discovering I have watched nearly all episodes in the last month or so. What is fascinating is the enthusiasm, knowledge and inspirational feel of each show. I don't shoot film,or have a darkroom, but I sure want to now. There is information for every level of photographer, shooting in any format in any genre and I have learned so much about so many aspects of photography by just watching and listening to these shows. Have just subscribed to the new feeds, to be honest if the only way they were available were by VHS tape I'd be scouring eBay for a player!
Truly inspiring, informative and enjoyable to watch and listen. If you have the slightest interest in photography, watch these shows and your interest will quadruple.

I have subscribed to this wonderful podcast almost since day 1 and can't recommend it enough. Ted is a very engaging and knowledgeable presenter and explains the technicalities very clearly. His enthusiasm for the "art of photography", rather than collecting gear is very refreshing. Please do yourself a favour and subscribe (or resubscribe) to the new feed to ensure that the podcast can continue. Thanks for the show Ted.

Hi Ted,
I am so glad that with the hosting issues you have had the show is going forwards all the better now you have full control.
There are lots of podcast out there that deal with the technical elementsof photography what I find refreshing about this show is that it approaches photography from an art angle. I enjoy every episode and always learn somethng new or hear something that makes me think and consider.
I have resubscribed to the new feed I hope all your other subscibers do and to anybody new out there SUBSCRIBE you will enjoy the show if your a photographer.

The best podcast I've subscribed to!

This is a great show, I found it less than a year ago and I watched every episode within a few days and I have been hooked ever since. It was great for me at the time because as well as hours of entertainment it gets you thinking about photography and how to make it interesting.
Since then I've shown it to my girlfriend to watch the earlier episodes to help with her photography.
So really it is great for us who are a bit long in the tooth with photography and need some fresh ideas and for those who are new to it to learn the mechanics of their camera.

Awesome!

Thank you Ted Forbes for taking the time to do these! They are informative, well presented and curiously addictive! Great for learning! I particularly like the ones talking about art and photography rather than the technology or demonstrations. The ones looking over famous photographers and giving advice about photography are my favourites and I keep re-watching them to try to keep inspired! Thanks!

Superb podcast. I am reasonably new to photogaphy and have struggled to take it forward. I don't have anyone to give me tips or advice and Ted has been excellent at filling this gap. He covers all the necessary areas regarding technique and gear, etc, etc, but podcasts I have most enjoyed most have been the ones where he goes over the work of photographers he admires. I have found this useful for ideas, and inspirational as well.

Thanks!

I am new to photography, and a total novice to using film. So I have found your podcast very inspiring. I've stopped fixating on buying lenses and equipment and started thinking about how to get the most out of what I have.
I have even ordered a pinhole holga and some film........ that should be fun! :)
So thanks for putting these podcasts together, I am really enjoying them.

Since having major back surgery last year and really getting into photography, I have discovered these podcasts. My dad was a photographer and worked at Ilfords before he had me and my brother. He died when I was 15 so I never had an adult chat with him about photography etc which is a real shame. I have got a lot of info from books but I must say that Ted Forbes is brilliant. He shares so much of his knowledge and practical information, these podcasts are a massive knowledge library and I have struggled to find such an intense collection anywhere else.
My only bug bear is that I have seen them all now and I only have an 8gb iPhone so can't keep them all on there for reference and that I have to wait a fortnight at a time for the next episode to come out! But they are well worth the wait. Thanks for all the effort you put in to these podcasts etc, absolutely brilliant and keep em coming!
Kind regards

I've viewed a few photography-related podcasts, and this is the best of the lot, in my opinion. An articulate, enthusiastic presenter whose enthusiasm really shows through in the content, good-quality video and audio.
A good range of content, from looking at photographers' work to seek inspiration, to the basics of camera control, to big 'events' like the Holga Projects and real-life meet-ups.
I can honestly say that this podcast has transformed my relationship with photography and helped me get to be a part of a real community of like-minded people. Thank you, Ted!

Unlike most other Podcasts, The Art of Photography doesn't concentrate on the latest equipment, but provides great educational content about the history of photograpjy, alternatives to digital and insights into how all cameras (pre & post digital) actually result in an end photograph.
Great stuff.

Stumbled across your podcast last night.I'm not a die hard photographer, but I use Camera+ & Instagram to take shots on my iPhone 4 & enjoy looking at other peoples shots.
Watching you podcast has made me want to maybe take photography to another level.
Your videos are very easy to follow & you present them in a way that is,as I would say "easy on the average brain" such as myself. haha
So thanks Ted & look forward to future podcasts :)

This is the best resource on photography I have come across on iTunes. Ted Forbes has a very different approach which keeps you engaged and motivates you to go out and try things on the gear you already have. Unlike the usual run of the mill podcasts and other online resources he stresses on spending more time learning about photography by taking pictures rather than spending on gears. I can't thank him enough for what these podcasts have done for me.
This resource is useful for all levels of photographers out there and is well supported by a dedicated website. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Such a varied selection of episodes that inform, educate and inspire.
There are many aspects of photography that Ted is passionate about and this is evident in every episode, but what comes across most is the dedication to photography as an art.
It is wonderful to view technologies, techniques and creative processes demonstrated in a well produced podcast.

They say: "Those who can, do; and, those who can't, teach" , well Ted shows us how false this statement is.
Magazines and books have their place, but if you need to look, listen and learn The Art of Photography provides the perfect solution. In a short space of time these podcasts have transformed the words I have read.
At first I downloaded what I thought I could get by with, but soon realised I wanted each and every one. So thank you Ted, stay enthusiastic, keep taking photos; and, podcast for ever.

I've watched every single episode of the Art of Photography and I've learned so much from them. A lot of photography podcasts seem to focus more on the latest & greatest equipment or the hosts latest achievements or products, yet the Art of Photography is all about the art. You'll learn how cameras work, how film is developed and how to compose your images. Ted also likes to talk about some of the photographers that inspire him. It's a stunning series of podcasts created by someone who clearly loves photography and wants to share that passion with his audience.
