Marathon Talk

The Olympic recap was enjoyable. Hollie is enthusiastic but this leads to her interrupting Martin on many occasions in the show and doesn’t make for great listening. Good to hear Training Talk back.

Marathon talk dot com

Used to listen every week now occasionally depending on the guest. Martin & Tony are good but Tom & Holly too self obsessed to the point that i just delete it, H in particular. Keep trying with it but it’s not there anymore. To hear Tom virtually dismiss the recent weekend event ‘is this six or seven, you’ll know better than me’ to a guest at the event! Runners World rehash the same articles all the time & sadly this does the same, Rob Deering & Paul T podcast so more modern & relevant. Too much rubbish about boring stuff.

Great long run chat

I’ve listened to this for years now during my long runs, from three hour epics in the hills to times when 5k was a struggle. I honestly don’t think I’d have kept going through babies, injury, low mojo and high mojo without it. Thank you fir your company.

Hit & Miss

At times brilliant. Other times painful. Sadly, the brilliant episodes are few and far between and, even though there are a still some highlights, at times it’s a slog to finish. The two main presenters are in a much different place than a few years ago and personally speaking I find their replacement Holly extremely irritating (she seems to be on every week). Might be time to call it a day lads. Sorry!

A good enough stopping off point

In truth, I haven't been enjoying this podcast for a while. I did hope it would get back to its best but the combo of Martin and Holly consistently turn me off as they direct the conversation away from running at every opportunity. Now that it seems like the both of them will be carrying on in the future it's probably a good enough stopping off point for me. It's sad, but a podcast with the tagline 'all about running' has become less and less about running in the last 18 months.

Really shoddy

Awful podcast so hard to listen to. Martin Yelling is a big head with strange opinions. He can’t listen to anyone else and topics are increasingly boring and non-running related. Holly is cringe and adds nothing. Never listening again.

Super-annuated Hippy Nonsense!

I used to enjoy this podcast when it was actually about running. But Martin in particular has decided to become a really big SJW. It’s so annoying, give me Tony and Holly any day of the week who are down to earth and not trying to save save the flippin planet.
The most recent interview with Scott Cain is a classic example of what I’m talking about. The interview just sounded like a couple of lefty lovelies trying reinvent society... make running ‘integral to our lives’ Martin? Really? Wakey wakey!!! Get back to running and leave the politics for other pods!

Keep on chatting!

I personally love the extended chat at the beginning of the show (particularly when Holly or Tony are involved) - I’m finding the guests a little dull recently - so please just keep on chatting!

Martin Yelling monologues

Just some increasingly miserable content from Martin moaning / preaching.

Legacy

I just love this show. The back catalogue is so wonderful; helps you to realise the evolution we all go through as runners. I love the interviews but more than that it’s just so precious to have such a record of running, in the UK and around the world, for the past 10 years. A record of what is / has been/is still important. How things change and how they stay the same. I’ve learnt so much through this show and laughed so much too. Thank you :)

Great pod and an amazing legacy of running content

I was drawn to Marathon Talk some 10 years ago when training for my first marathon. As a new runner at the time it was incredibly welcoming, unpretentious and accompanied me on many solo long runs. Since then I’ve dipped in and out when I’ve wanted to reconnect to what it was like to be a new runner starting out. The pod of course does cater for runners of all abilities but the emphasis for me was always about participation and celebrating everyone just getting out the door. In the last 2-3 years I’ve fallen away from listening due to the change in format and also a change in what I want to listen to. I go for podcasts now which have presenters which may mirror the running community that I recognise today and unfortunately the current format just doesn't work for me.
Still, congratulations Marathon Talk for inspiring me and millions of others to get out of the door. You have left an incredible legacy of amazing interviews and whimsy for generations to come.

Thoroughly enjoying the show’s evolution

Despite never having run a marathon (and maybe never will) I’ve been listening every week for four or five years. Have really enjoyed the more recent evolution of the show, it can’t say the same forever. I’m really enjoying Tony and Holly’s role as presenters alongside Tom and Martin. My favourite segment is simply the chat at the beginning between the presenters about the latest athletics news - love that it keeps me abreast of forms of running that I otherwise wouldn’t really keep up-to-date about - cross country, marathons, track...and the occasional scandal. Thank you so much team for your dedication to keeping this podcast going for so many years, integral part of many peoples’ lives.

Lost!

Used to look forward to the long run to tune in but just listened to the most recent episode and some airy fairy hippy waffle about not stepping on flowers. I understand the focus away from performance but I assume we were all drawn to MT in the first place because it was originally about running.
Bring back the banter. Bring back the subject of running and stop trying to make us feel guilty about occasionally having a performance goal.

Used to be a must, now not so much

This was a must listen on my long runs (or even split into two for shorter ones) but since the 500th episode it has become hit or miss. The last episode had 25 minutes of “chat” at the beginning that just did not resonate with me - and it’s not all about running any longer.
Some of the interviews are fantastic - loved the Charlie Spedding interview - but because it sounded like the old days with Tom and Martin together and having that spark - which just isn’t there in the other pairings.
Been hard to write this as what was once a great podcast is now losing it’s mojo

I love MT

I’ve listened since 2012 and have heard every episode. I really like the new format and it’s much less blokey now the presenters are more relaxed. Bring back Boy on the run.

Losing interest

I used to love this podcast. Downloading it on a Wednesday and listening to it on my next run was a bit of the week I always looked forward to.
Having Martin give a 5 minute lecture on how to look after your kids this week was really the last straw though. It left me feeling really angry.
I listened to hear Martin and Tom laugh at each other (that never happens now), good training talks (it seems like they are being rehashed), Tony’s Trials (still brilliant when they’re on), Running news with Tom ranting about something. I don’t want to listen to a podcast telling me I’m a rubbish parent.
The show has lost what it was - a funny light hearted chat about running with occasional deeper stuff.
Sorry...

Park Run Talk

Marathon talk has degenerated into park run talk with Martin doing the same one in about the same time each week (boring). Tom doesn’t run at all now so bangs on about the Park run organisation rather than running. Better with Tony and Holly.

A go to podcast for runners

This is a thoroughly engaging, consistently entertaining 90 minutes or so of running related chat and info. It’s perfect fodder when out running. The addition of Holly and Tony as additional presenters has freshened up an already enjoyable podcast. Well done to the whole team.

Never too long

Can’t understand those who say it is too long. You don’t have to listen in one go. I often break it up which means I get 3 days of tuning in. I love all sections of the podcast. Tom and Martin have jobs and they get this out every week for free. Having guest presenters keeps it going when they have other things to do. Congratulations on number 500, and here’s to the next 500.

Great Podcast

Been a listener since Ep.1; love the mix of science, news, comedy (Tony’s Trials) and the two main presenters’ friendship. Now also with our newer presenter (Holly) it makes for an interesting, funny and informative Podcast on running. Thanks Martin, Tom, Tony and Holly for all you do for our community.

Marathon Talk podcast

This used to be a great training tool for marathon running from two very knowledgeable and enthusiastic presenters and an entertaining slot from Tony Audenshaw. Whilst Tony's spot is still legendary and the highlight of the show, the rest is now little more than banter from Tom and Martin, generally describing their weekend chores or perhaps a parkrun. A large section of the show is dedicated to describing photos of listeners wearing the Marathon Talk t-shirts around the world. Not the most rivetting thing to listen to on a run. The presenters have cleary tired of marathons since the show's early days, and they generally focus on other distances, primarily ultra-distance or the parkrun. The majority of shows have no news or interviews related to marathons. There are certainly still good bits to be found in this podcast, but you may have to skip through all the filler to get there.

Still good

When Martin and Tom are on form this podcast works so well. Occasionally broken up with other presenters to keep the streak going which is fine but the winning formula can be lost a little. Very informative show and the interviews are great if the sound quality is too which it sometimes isn’t but not bad for free! It does engage the audience using various methods and there is a nice balance of comedy and content throughout the podcast that links to other shows. Having a lot in common with both presenters has helped but it shouldn’t put off any listener as you are sure to get something from the show no matter how active you are.
Running does help through. Amazing effort to keep going after 8 years. Thank you

Marathon Motivation

Before listening to this podcast I hadn’t ran a marathon, now with four under my belt I am hooked. With Martin hugging trees while Tom sits with Homer. Holly always at the head of the race and Tony is uplifting.

A great magazine style podcast

I love the format of this podcast as it reminds me of a magazine - regular topics with a good structure.
Found this years after it started but have downloaded tons of episodes with excellent guests.
The hosts are brilliant as are the very occasional stand-ins.
This has kept me company on many a long run. Keep up the great work guys.

Great entertainment

It's called Marathon Talk, but this podcast covers running in general, from one mile efforts to ultra marathons. The hosts Martin and Tom have a great rapport, which generates much banter (and hilarity at times!). They talk about topical issues, offer training advice and interview influential and interesting figures in the sport. The perfect accompaniment to your long run.

Marathon talk family

It feels like I've known these guys all my life as they have laughed and joked in my ear on my long runs. The interviews are brilliant, inspiring and can move me to tears. The advice is delivered in a balanced way so you can make up your own mind and the commentary on the state of British running and the world is honest and interesting.

Good but way too long

Good podcast but way too much preamble before they get to the interesting topics. Each episode is about 90 minutes which makes it difficult to listen to a whole one while you commute, clean etc. Half an hour shorter and they'd be perfect.

Addictive, inspirational, entertaining- what else do you need to get you through marathon training?

I was rather late jumping on the marathon talk band wagon but I came across this podcast back in November.
I've been listening to it non stop since with the aim to catch up by the London marathon 2017.
Last year it was Justin Bieber getting me through marathon training, this year it's Martin Yelling & Tom Williams.
Fantastically entertaining. Always makes me laugh and really informative. Some absolutely inspirational interviews from both world class athletes and incredible people doing amazing things.

From beginner to elite there’s something for everyone

Martin Yelling and Tom Williams do a terrific job of covering everything that’s interesting in Marathon Running. They also add the latest running related news, training tips and insert other interesting sporting headlines from around the world to engage a diverse audience. It doesn’t stop there. The show flows brilliantly each week by adding a diary of their own personal lives and funny stories that happen along they way. They secure the attention of the listener no matter what level you find yourself at. The show is the perfect compliment for those that like to listen to podcasts on the go especially for those on long runs. Give it a go for a few weeks and you are likely to be hooked.
