Slipping...
I've been listening to the Dave Dameshek football Program weekly for around 4 years now on my commute to work, but have regularly been skipping over this in my podcast timeline due to the poor quality of the content on shows in recent times. When I do listen, I've been skipping forward through it to actually try to find any football content.
The format of the show has gradually been transforming from a high quality football podcast, with interesting insights and genuinely funny interaction between Dave, Hank and other guests, to a convuluted mash up of soundbites, Steelers chats, irrelevant lists/rankings and guest drop-ins who offer little to nothing but seem to only serve Dave's ego.
The actual football discussion is almost all gone now between Hank and Dave, which to me was the backbone of the show and whose interactions were funny, insightful and informative when required respectively - the timing and content was great. Now we have to put up with MJD and Ike weekly who, although can offer insight into the life of an NLF star and the locker room, offer very little charisma and seem to pretty much be there only to slap each other on the back - I'm not subscribed to the MJD and Ike show guys. Hank no longer offers anything to the show and it may be pointless for him to be there, while Dave seems to spend each podcast offering nothing but comparisons to the Steelers and talking pretty much anything but football for around 3/4 of the show.
The show may be getting 'too' big, and to me has lost the charm, wit and insight that made it great and what attracted this listener to it. I'll stick with it a while longer, but it really is not a touch on Around the NFL at the moment which at least has chat relevant to the news, excellent content and charismatic hosts and guests.
This certainly hasn't been a 'thin slice of heaven' recently - I hope they take this show back to it's roots and focus on football content instead of soundbites, irrelevant conversation and guests. The show has been poor of late..
