Description

Dave Dameshek sets his gaze on the NFL landscape to analyze, celebrate and - when necessary - offer improvements to America’s true national pastime from a true fan’s perspective. Dave is frequently joined by players, as well as his NFL Network regulars to talk about the game of football and perhaps more importantly, the game called life. On this podcast, nothing is off-limits... Except some stuff.

Was the best now the worst

This show used to be great, then the old producer left. Eddie does his best and when Matt Money Smith is on it’s bearable. But the magic has totally gone.
If you want a good football show, listen to around the NFL. If you want to listen to someone constantly talk about the steelers whilst eating (Dave, Henry, have you ever listened to two guys eating before? It doesn’t make a good show) this is the show for you.
Tired and boring show, time to finish guys

Shut up Dave

Love the Pod, love Eddie & his little insights here n there. Dave’s nasal drawl is tolerable but oh my God he needs to shut up every now n then. Stop cutting off your guests when they’re making a good point or disagreeing with you. MJD is an awesome guest he needs his own podcast he provides some amazing viewpoints & is just super wise! He is the best guest on the pod. Ironically enough on a show when you’re paid to talk Dave, you need to talk less 😂. Oh and get off the Steelers D!ck!! And please get off Rothlisbergers d!ck you must be sore from riding this guy. I know you’re a fan but you spend sooooo much time on the Steelers it’s annoying! Try and be a little more impartial pleaseeee. Or just less Steelers.

Always looking forward to the next ep

Dave unapologetically provides sports insight with the same outspoken and bold tone as you’d expect from a chat with your mate at a bar. The way he rips into his guests and vice verse also reminds you of the same scenario.
The result is a laid back, funny podcast, that still doesn’t detract from the intelligent and well thought out insights of the analysts and ex players he brings on the show.
My favourite sports podcast by far!

Love the Shek

Loving the podcast from the UK despite the blatant bias from Dave towards the Steelers. Great mix of regular co-hosts and love the episodes where no football is talked and they just cover any other subject under the sun!

Great show, but just be ready to adjust the volume!

It’s certainly a podcast of many subjects. Dave is fun to listen to, but just be aware that he can be so loud that you may have to turn the volume down occasionally and can be annoying when he talks over his guests - not forgetting that he talks about films when I haven’t even seen them yet. Anyway, with a mixture of subjects, a variety of guests that not only include Football super stars, but also film and TV stars, it’s one of my go-to podcasts. I highly recommend adding this podcast to your subs, because as Dave says; it’s a podcast that’s not only about football, but also on life.

My problem is Eddie

I like the show but at the end Eddie chimes in with some of the most delusional views that contradict Dave and any of the guests that he has on! It’s like he doesn’t listen to that actually discussion!

Good fun

Great Pod - has become a staple part of my commute. Good analysis, light hearted chat and good craic. Game of life just as much fun as the game of football talk. Keep it up

I absolutely love the Podcast all the way in Wales UK. But Deker (if that’s how you spell it) is not a great addition.

Game of Life

Best current events, mimicry, parenthood, lambasting, pie, and Pittsburgh sports teams podcast on the market, and sometimes they talk about football, too.
The guests are always top notch, and as a Brit, I can never get enough of Handsome.

Terrible ‘production ‘

How can they get the audio levels so wrong? I’m constantly having to adjust the volume as some of the presenters are faint, some much louder and, Dave regularly going from a whisper to shouting! During two of the interviews this week I could only hear the questions, the replies were so faint they will forever remain a mystery.

Good Bye

Without a doubt the most intensely annoying football commentator ever. How can anyone this ignorant be so arrogant. For the sake of his relatives, I hope it is an act for the Podcast.

Dameshek ruins the show

The interviews are really good and Dave is excellent at interviewing footballers, and guests like Ike and Maurice make the show entertaining, but when Dameshek gets too much air time he ruins it.

Slipping...

I've been listening to the Dave Dameshek football Program weekly for around 4 years now on my commute to work, but have regularly been skipping over this in my podcast timeline due to the poor quality of the content on shows in recent times. When I do listen, I've been skipping forward through it to actually try to find any football content.
The format of the show has gradually been transforming from a high quality football podcast, with interesting insights and genuinely funny interaction between Dave, Hank and other guests, to a convuluted mash up of soundbites, Steelers chats, irrelevant lists/rankings and guest drop-ins who offer little to nothing but seem to only serve Dave's ego.
The actual football discussion is almost all gone now between Hank and Dave, which to me was the backbone of the show and whose interactions were funny, insightful and informative when required respectively - the timing and content was great. Now we have to put up with MJD and Ike weekly who, although can offer insight into the life of an NLF star and the locker room, offer very little charisma and seem to pretty much be there only to slap each other on the back - I'm not subscribed to the MJD and Ike show guys. Hank no longer offers anything to the show and it may be pointless for him to be there, while Dave seems to spend each podcast offering nothing but comparisons to the Steelers and talking pretty much anything but football for around 3/4 of the show.
The show may be getting 'too' big, and to me has lost the charm, wit and insight that made it great and what attracted this listener to it. I'll stick with it a while longer, but it really is not a touch on Around the NFL at the moment which at least has chat relevant to the news, excellent content and charismatic hosts and guests.
This certainly hasn't been a 'thin slice of heaven' recently - I hope they take this show back to it's roots and focus on football content instead of soundbites, irrelevant conversation and guests. The show has been poor of late..

Stop with the Game of Thrones obsession!

I do enjoy this Podcast but I wish there was more about the NFL in it! The Game of Thrones bits really grate... Do your own Game of Thrones podcast if you're that interested in it..... Just not a patch on the Around The NFL podcast....

Losing its edge

Used to love it. Still has its entertaining moments, but Ike Taylor and MJD have an agreement not to ever disagree with each other and its become very vanilla / predictable when they are on. One says something and the other agrees. Ike's a bit incoherent at times, and MJD borders on arrogant and quite dismissive towards Hank. Shek report is quite funny, and Dave is good value as a host. Its not a patch on Around the NFL in terms of banter and different opinions though to be honest. It might be better if Ike and MJD werent on at the same time because they just agree with each other, but neither of them add much. They just tow the explayer line.

Gets worse and worse

This show gets less and less entertaining the more Shek tries to sellout to the YouTube/Now audience. More than 50% of the show is unavailable in audio format as they constantly cut away to filmed segments. Pretty poor excuse for a podcast.
Shame on all of you but especially Capt. Blowhard aka Damashek.
Try listening to the Around the NFL Podcast. They actually can integrate video segments into a podcast seamlessly without alienating their listeners.

Once brilliant but no longer

I used to love this podcast and listen to it all the time. I listened as a faithful fan for over 2 years. Dave, Rank and Handsome Hank were truly great. The Pie Off episodes by far my favourites. This year though the introduction of video was catastrophic to the audio only experience. I couldn't listen anymore. It feels like when the Wayne's World tv show in the film sold out and lost its heart. Dave is still funny, but his supporting cast is poor. MJD in particular is uncharismatic and belligerent. There you go Dave, no jive. While it lasted the fun was fantastic

Brilliant until video was brought in

As a member of shek-nation I listened to this podcast religiously as soon as it cane out.. I love Dave and the whole crew in studio 66.
However the move to video has seriously compromised the podcast and seems to have moved away from its roots. The show seems broken up and disjointed especially when they jump to and from video sections.
I get why they want to do the videos but it no longer is my NFL podcast of choice due to their compromising of the podcast for YouTube content.

Now Unlistenable

The DDFP was once one of the elite NFL podcasts available on iTunes, alas this is no more.
Thanks to the insufferable "Producer TD" all but forgetting about the original, audio-only, listeners of the show and making the DDFP video-first it is now a shadow of its former self. Entire features are impossible to follow for audio-only listeners.
What's more annoying is the constant whinging from TD that people should watch it on YouTube. How am is anyone supposed to do that on the drive into work or on the subway? While on the topic of TD, the glory hunter (Man United and Seahawks fan, seriously?) is an incessant interruption to reasonable discussion on the show.
Furthermore, the DDFP was once a delightful, witty podcast with great guests and regular contributors. Now it seems more like "what washed up NFL star can we get on this week to talk about the Steelers?". A once wonderful Handsome Hank has seemingly grown too big for his boots and Elliot Harrison is biased to the Cowboys as ever.
In the words of Dameshek himself, I urge, nay demand, that you listen to the Around The NFL podcast boys instead - it'll be a thin slice of heaven.

In decline

I reviewed this a few years ago and gave it 5 stars. The admission of too many stumbling, fumbling, inarticulate former players has changed the dynamic, interest and wit of the programme. It succeeds as a show by and for fans, it fails when it moves away from this. Finally, bring back Adam Rank. He and Shek had great chemistry.

“THE" NFL podcast

Bora Da from Wales. This is now one of only two podcasts I download to get my news. DD is brilliant balanced by BT, HH and Rank. Heart on the sleeve stuff. Keep up the good work. BTW, ask HH to bring you some Hedgehog flavoured crisps....

Love Football, Hate Basketball

This is a great podcast for keeping up to date with the NFL happenings all year round. My only criticism is why o why do they keep having long sections about the NBA. If I want a basketball podcast (I don't) then I would download one. Cut out the NBA and stick to the good stuff.

Bonkers but hilarious

The podcast is fantastic although at times it strays very far from the topic of American football. Dave is at his best when defending his left field views on the sport and TD is a great producer.

Shek the great

As a Londoner and long time Raider fan, I commited myself to becoming an informed fan for the first time. I listen and watch as much content as I can...life partner allowing. I love Dave's cantakerous style, his slightly film noir vocal style and the mirth he brings. What is great is that amongst it all, there are real nuggets of football knowledge. It's only spoilt by the fact that Black Tie is a United fan and as such obviusly has no idea about football!(soccer) An excellent pod. Oh, Malcom Jenkins is a keeper

Awesome podcast!

This is one of the very best podcasts out there! Lots of fun and no jive!! It has helped pass more than few hours driving around the Highlands of Scotland and the Isle of Skye, not forgetting many a drive to work along the shores of Loch Ness!! (No monster sightings yet!!). Would recommend this to any football fan out there!

DDFP

Hello, personally I think that the DDFP is a great podcast that would recommend to anyone. On the following reasons of that, for a start it has a great vibe through out the people and players who visit the podcast and talk about the NFL there is no one who is regularly on the podcast that is no beat or temperamental towards it. Secondly the ALL of the people on the show know what they are talking about weather it's football, baseball, basketball, music or films that TD/Black Tie hasn't seen.Thirdly the charm and charisma of Dave Damashek will entice anyone who listens to even a fraction of one show to want to listen to another. Finally I think that TD/Black Tie is one of the best producers around on any podcast and I love the body language"bit" but as a 49ers fan,I plead that you should be talking more about the 49ers on your podcast.

Losing something

I have listened to the DDFP since day one and can't help but feel that it's started to lose some of it's freeform tone. When it was mainly just Dave and Adam (who seems to have fallen off the face of the Earth), it felt like listening to an entertaining conversation, where they would veer off the original subject and just go with it. It seems that whenever that happens now, Black Tie jumps in with a warning that we must get back to that day's contrived topic. He did it again the other day when Matt Money Smith started talking about punk bands. These guys love talking, let them talk! Hank, Harrison and Jeremiah are interesting contributors but please, less Black Tie and less segments.

Awesome Football Podcast

This is a great football podcast with lots of player guests. In studio 66 Shek doesn't just kibitz about the serious side of the NFL, but also uniforms, mascots, and pop culture in general. This is a must listen for any sports fan unless you support Peyton Manning or Tony Romo.
