Always a really good romp through the issue at hand. Logic and reason often fall foul of moral grandstanding, caricature, and circularity, but maybe I’m just an unreconstructed utilitarian...

Always enjoyable and provocative though please use Owen Jones very sparingly as his ultra partisan, more heat than light, approach is not a great addition to the structure. By all means bring those with different persuasions as panellists and experts but not down the line ideologues

5 stars despite its failings

A great premise, but often fails to deliver on dealing with issues of morality - subjects are too broad in scope, and witnesses too disparate to enable a thorough critical / philosophical analysis (e.g. straying into technical areas or “pure” unsubstantiated opinions). Having said that, still enjoy the programme as it does highlight the realities of everyday polarisation //

I find it frustrating, agonising, antagonistic, and maddening! Whilst simultaneously energising, uplifting, illuminating & thoughtful. It’s challenging my own values, beliefs and particularly my conscious and unconscious bias - keep it up

Great show, essential listening

A free, open discussion, where any attempt at shutting up the opponent by making them out to be morally questionable is immediately called out. Shocked that such an open forum is still possible in 2017!

Exhausting - not in a good way

I find the format of this programme increasingly wearing. Often it seems that the point of debate is deliberately not defined too precisely thus giving the participants the freedom to range over a number of different issues and to pursue their own agenda. With eight contributors this too often results in a mishmash of competing ideas with little time for reflection or consolidation. The need to follow a strict time scale results in a frantic pace with people like Anne McElvoy and Matthew Taylor behaving as if they barely have time to ask the questions (or should that be barrage the guests?) let alone listen to the responses. Too often the outcome is a clash of journalistic egos with not much enlightenment. For me this can be exhausting and confusing. I have always been interested in moral philosophy but I prefer to consume it in a more relaxed and considered way.

What an amazing group of young people. A really impressive episode and extremely well reasoned, calm and informed panel.

Thought provoking but frustrating

It's very refreshing to find a programme that doesn't automatically cater to the masses and actually attempts deeply discuss controversial topics in a meaningful way. The quality is obviously largely dependent upon who the witnesses are and how the panel is comprised in any given week. Michael Burke does well to keep things relatively focused and on-topic, however the witnesses can have a tendency to overly focus on their specific area of knowledge rather than the issue actually at hand or the question asked. What I find intensely frustrating though is some members of the panel who insist on asking a series of leading questions, immediately interrupting the witness and preventing them from finishing their answer the moment they realise they are not taking the bait. The odious 'thought experiments' serve no purpose other than to trap a witness into giving an arbitrary response to an irrelevant question, which can then be used to twist and dismiss their position. It's immensely entertaining to listen to some of the more expert and experienced witnesses skilfully avoid these traps, but the time could be better used actually debating. One last thing - please do away with Giles Fraser. Nothing is insightful (nor even entertaining) about his juvenile accusations, strops, delusions, biases or prejudices. He only serves to undermine the integrity of the program.

Liberal, woolly-minded bullying, intellectual snobbery and easy to spot "thought experiment" mind traps - appalling radio and an excuse for some not very bright journalists to feel superior to people who have actually done something with their lives.
