Love it!

Can't say enough good things about Brett & the rest of the Lasertime crew. This particular podcast strikes that lovely balance of being funny and informative. Definitely influenced my musical tastes in recent years, opening up a world of music that I knew but never actually listened to. Brett you should write a book or make a movie about VGM!

Fantastic idea, long may it continue

I always enjoyed the retro game music snippets on Retronauts over the years, so discovering this podcast (embarrassingly late, and only after the host appeared on an episode of the aforementioned show - the power of cross-network promotion!) was a wonderful moment. Put together with an obvious love of the subject, no matter which selection of guests appear, one always get the sense of camaraderie and fun - which only adds to the appeal. Some very interesting choices of focus... I must admit I have checked out a fair few retro titles as a result of their fully-merited appearance (Kickle Cubicle... what a little gem!). There are so many topics I would love to see covered, so... keep up the good work, chaps!

Love this podcast

I not only love the game music they chose for each episodes I love the story's that they tell when they played the games that they have picked. Awesome stuff. Would love for Brett to interview some of the makers of the music.

Really enjoyable podcast. As a fan of video game music I really appreciate someone taking the time to gather what little infomation there is out there about the composers of some of these tunes. The host is brilliant at explaining how important a song is for a particular level in a game and the era that a game was released.

VGMpire

If you've ever found yourself humming a tune from a videogame in your head hours after putting the controller down and wondered if anyone else has felt the same the chances are yes they have.
This podcast is a celebration of all those tunes produced by games journalist/writer Bret Elston, each episode covers a either a series of games, or those with a similar theme (I.E. an episode about Tekken and an episode about Puzzle games). So chances are if you don't like one episode you will like another, as for the content of the shows, Bret and one or two guests play songs from the shows theme of the week and inbetween each discuss the songs, their history and the relationship to themselves. The editing of the podcast is top notch and the banter between each person can be both humourous and informative, the familiarity between those involved does [occaisionally] lead to some over your head moments but certainly not enough to warrant losing a star and in time is a bonus to the show.
Finally the highest praise I can add is that thanks to this show I have bought game soundtracks to games I have never played or been interested in, which goes to show how inspiring and informing it can be.

Former TalkRadar host and current LaserTimer Brett Elston finally gets an outlet for his game music obsession.
This podcast is a really entertaining and informative way to give game music the respect it deserves and is always a delight to listen to.

Brilliant on so many levels

Great to learn about the history of video game through one of the most underated aspects. Brilliant insight from Brett as always and regular guests help add fun to an already great podcast. If you like Lasertime and Talkradar this for you.
