The Discussion:
A refreshed format coming to Awesome Astronomy in 2023 A look back at the festive season

The News:
Rounding up the astronomy news in November, we have:
Something in the solar system is producing light that’s not unaccounted for A leak on the International Space Station’s lifeboat NASA’s Mars lander comes to an end A new way to look for aliens
The big news story: As the UK gets ready to launch space vehicles for the first time, we take a look at the long history of UK space activity and the concept of launching to space from aircraft.

The Sky Guide:
As many people will have got new observing equipment this Christmas,  we’re taking a look at the beginner-friendly constellation of Taurus with a guide to its history, how to find it, a few deep sky objects to seek out and a round-up of the solar system views on offer in January.

Q&A:
The brightest GRB ever recorded occurred on 9th October 2022. Its effects on the Earth’s ionosphere was strong enough to be observed by amateur radio astronomers. How did dust form the expanding halo observed around the GRB source? From our good friend Andrew Thomas.

Best space podcast on the market

Whether by luck or design the producers of this show have a format which works perfectly.
There is something refreshing about 3 mates talking about space & astronomy in a very relaxed and informal way. The humour makes the episodes a joy to listen to every month.
Jen, Paul and Ralph easily switch into explaining the more complicated aspects of astronomy and space exploration. Each are on the ball and have researched the breaking space news to deliver it in digestible chunks.
The show has hit that rare sweet spot where it comes across as professional and polished without even trying to be.
Over the last 10 years this show has become a staple for me, long may it continue.
Thanks for all the effort you go to and keep up the superb work.

Entertaining, Informative, Offbeat

This is not your normal “isn’t science wonderful” type podcast. You get to listen to three friends chat about space and astronomy. A subject they clearly have a great deal of knowledge of and love for. Frequently irreverent and always funny, it manages to impart a great deal of information in an entertaining way. I really value the hosts’ take on the news, where they exercise their independence and say it how they see it.

Good fun and no adverts!

I’ve listened to the podcast for several years, and I’ve also been along to a couple of Astro camps. The enthusiasm and knowledge of all three is excellent, and the format is good for all types of astronomer: armchair, visual, or imager.
Keep up the good work and here’s to the next 100 episodes!

My favourite astronomy podcast

More like a chat down the pub than many other podcasts, I enjoy this very much. The format of astronomy and space flight getting different episodes each month works very well. I like the history too - both Ralph’s enthusiasm for early space flight, and Paul’s random bits of history! And Jeni’s blaming everything on dust does have a strangely fascinating success rate...

Brilliant, relaxed astronomy show

Really enjoying the podcast and the presenters clear love of the subject. It would be easy to get too technical and turn listeners off but all the presenters strike a great balance. Keep it up!

The Zenith of Podcasting

I was recommended this podcast at a star party and never looked back. A fantastic relaxed show with plenty of lighthearted views on a subject I love. The out takes are great. The most recent podcast extra from The Cradle of Flight was amazing. I’ll be adding it to my wish list. I would like to hear from the crew on any equipment that they us and a few tips. FIVE SUPERNOVAS!!!!

Best astro podcast out there :)

Really fun, really informative, and really entertaining. Pitched just right, in my opinion, for everyone, even those new to the subject. Isn't overly techy, nor is it dumbed down. Spot on :)

Fantastic!

New to the show, but really enjoying it. Great for amateur astronomers, space enthusiasts, and even for us astronomy PhD students (yes, this show has taught me a few things already!). Good quality recordings, decent format, and excellent hosts. 5 stars! 😊

Awesome but sometimes not

Like the show, though not having a telescope I sometimes skip the actual 'what to see in the night sky' stuff. Can't say I want to hear politics on the show, even though I agree with most of it.
I am eager to hear the astronomy news, launch news etc. and I miss the explainers they used to do about what stuff is and how it works - stars, planets, radio telescopes etc. Or am I thinking of someone else.
That said, the relaxed style is engaging, the hosts likeable and the discussions on news items the most interesting bit... but that's just me.

My go to Astronomy Podcast

I look forward so much to seeing the 2 podcasts downloading each month and hearing that intro music, I know that I have an hours interesting, informative, sometimes challenging for my amateur astronomers brain, and either mildly amusing or downright smutty. Well done and keep it up.

Factual and Entertaining

Astronomy, space, rationality, invasion.

It’s an accessible space podcast that doesn’t dumb down the science. There’s great chemistry between the hosts and their enthusiasm for the topic leads to some genuine laugh out loud moments. Bring on the Martian revolution!

First rate!

Humour, facts, knowledgeable presenters, debunking, entertainment, education and interviews this podcast has it all. It is all things space, not just astronomy which sets it apart. Good coverage of astronomy and space topics, astronaut interviews and the Essex Space Agency

Quirky & Excellent

This is a highly amusing yet informative astronomy podcast. Accesible to the novice yet informative for the not so new.
Theit Christmas specials are a wonder to behold
Yet their monthly contributions are not to be missed they include a monthly sky guide, a latwest news and a special feature such as alien megastructures (NOT); dust; Interstellar asteroids from the most recent episodes
You really must listen to at least one, after which you will be hooked

Brilliant Podcast

This is definitely in the top 3 best astronomy podcasts around at the moment. All three presenters come across as knowledgeable and funny without being annoying. It features a number of different segments per episode and interviews with astronomers from the cutting edge of their fields. Why aren't there more podcasts like this one?

Awesome Astronomy

As an amateur astronomer with some experience, this podcast covers all bases, from beginer advice to fairly complex but not mathematically blinding cosmology Ralph and Paul entertainingly explain all things astronomical. Interesting interviews are a plenty and monthly sky guides are not to be missed, in addtion these guys arrange an astro camp each year in the dark skies area of Brecon Beacon, Wales for a chance to meet up and view the skies together. The podcast is provided free and anybody with an interest in astronomy would be missing out to not take advantage of this generous offer.
