Re visits again. They must think we are daft and don’t know how to scroll thru a history of uploads. You know that every episode is there to find at all times, right?

Interesting subject but delivered in a dull-as-dish-water manner unfortunately…

Really well written and varied long read stories, but please change the narrator - why is she so nasal?

Why is that the NHS assumes you want to prolong the suffering of your life without question. I certainly won’t want to keep going based on someone else thinking it’s the best option. An enjoyable listen.

Episode: Footballs Forgotten Tragedy - excellent!

Really enjoyed listening to this episode, I thought the narrator (Graeme Rooney) had a brilliant natural read, I hope he’s used on other episodes as I’ll definitely listen again. A really interesting story.

I’ve listened to some great stories of a very high quality. Really appreciate accessing proper journalism at its best, most eloquent and entertaining.

The Archers - ‘Awful Narrator’

This podcast might have been interesting but for the narrator. What is the attraction of The Archers? Why and how has this long-running Programme attracted listeners from around the world? How has it been affected by script-writers, actors? Etc. I will never know. Not for the first time, the tone of the narrator’s voice, snide, superior, patronizing, undermined any possibility of objectivity, and I switched off. Why the Guardian does not permit their researchers to read their own stories is a mystery to me.

Fascinating listen but as others have said - I found the voice of this narrator off putting. A bit stilted at times and lacking warmth.

Awful narrator!!

I used to love these but unfortunately the narrators are terrible. So many whiny American voices, a Londoner one who didn’t pronounce the g in every single gerund and just generally awful lazy speech. Please get a nice rich warm voice to read it!

I absolutely love these podcasts. Eclectic, insightful and interesting. They have been my constant companion during covid lockdown walks and runs. I love the narrators too - their voices are engaging and soothing at the same time. More of these please!

These articles are really interesting but the narrators voice really puts me off. The ones I’ve listened to sound like a patronising, middle class teacher reading a story to a child. I think a more relevant narrator would do the articles justice and be easier to listen to.

Badly Timed Adverts.

The Long Read Podcasts are eye opening and thoroughly engaging. My main complaint, and this could be aimed at several podcasts, are the jingles & adverts are much louder than the audio levels for the main content.
Also, words or sentences can get interrupted by adverts.
Does anyone listen back to these before releasing them for general consumption?

Here are the three episodes I’ve enjoyed the most - witty, insightfully written and read beautifully at a comfortable pace.
- Real estate for the apocalypse: my journey into a survival bunker (17 April 2020)
- Why WeWork went wrong (17 January 2020)
- Athleisure, barre and kale: the tyranny of the ideal woman (23 September 2019)

Some really interesting stuff but these are too short for me. I prefer my podcasts to be at least an hour long per episode.

Please get better narrators!

The content of these articles is almost always fascinating, but marred by huge inconsistency among the readers/narrators. Some genuinely sound like a schoolchild being made to read out loud; others pronounce words wrongly, and yet others are fantastically nuanced and gripping. I sometimes have to give up listening because the poor narration grates so much and makes it difficult to follow the sense of the article. And sometimes I’m hanging on every word. It feels like pot luck every time? Please, please could we have more of Alice Arnold and others who genuinely seem to understand what they’re reading out (and have researched pronunciations too). You need more than just any old someone who can read words on a page out loud, to make these articles as compelling a listening experience as they deserve to be.

Although I love listening to these long reads - the content being interesting and engaging - I think you should consider hiring a range of voices to read them. It seems at the moment as though they are very one tone and it would be great to hear voices with some character and accents, I personally would find it easy to stay engaged if the voice reading the articles were more interesting - something to consider!

Educational thought provoking & balanced long form journalism at its best. I absolutely love this podcast- except the gratingly annoying voices of the American read articles - I have to skip those. I love the breadth & scope of this podcast.

Super unimpressed by these podcasts. Constant focus on LDN and NY trends as if the entire world lives there - completely out of touch and is symptomatic of the Guardian's general tendency to waft around in a closed world of its own opinions instead of making an impact and affecting the real world.

a great idea for those who like to have something informative on in the background, the guardian long reads podcast combines audiobook-like narration and quality long form guardian articles into an interesting podcast curating a selection of stories that i don’t usually look to read. even if you aren’t always on the same political footing as many of the writers (with whom i sometimes disagree), it’s worth listening to other viewpoints to keep open minded in these insular and ignorant times

Long form journalism, presented as a podcast, allowing time to expand on ideas and cover the more nuanced parts of a story.
I might not always agree with the analysis, but it makes me think and reconsider my opinions.
Well worth you time.

Having criticized it n the past, GLR has been on a long run of excellence

In the past it felt like many Long Reads feel could have benefited from a little more editorial input when they were recorded. For example, the ‘Putin: Killer, Kleptocrat…’ GLR dismissed Russia’s interference in the US Presidential election as negligible. However, ever since the ‘Casa Pound’ episode, I’ve been amazed by the breadth and excellence of the (as far as I can tell) accurate journalism featured in GLR. I’ve leant a lot.

Great journalism

Why I'm no longer talking to white people about race. Not only has an out there tittle but was so poignantly written. I loved everything about this. Being in a place where I'm exhausted by my blackness constantly being a negative in the work place it was amazing to hear our issue articulated. Dear white people who make pivotal decisions in the work place you really do need to listen to this. Thanks Guardian you just made my day!
