A solid Disney World Podcast with just a few negatives
A good solid three times a week show all about Walt Disney World, with a diverse team of Disney Experts. I have listened to this show for over three years, and only missed a few episodes. I must say I really enjoy it, and the short episode length is both a good and bad thing.
With an average of about 20 minutes, it great to listen on a commute to work, or during a quick workout or jog, but also because of its short length it can sometimes not be as detailed as a trip planner may want it to be. However the variety of topics covered are vast, and the back catalogue extremely valuable for trip planners.
The longest show each week at about 30 minutes is the email show, which offers listeners a chance to email questions in. Great idea, but in practice this only partially works, as the emails are usually ridiculously out of date by the time they get to them, to be of little or no use to the actually sender. They often joke about this fact, but the joke is wearing a little thin now.
The panel are a very mixed bunch of personalities. There is one who studies all the statistics about the parks like Q Times, advises best days to go and authors a book about touring Disney (and also sounds and speaks just like the mailman character from Cheers, with a very similar personality too!). Another, who is more like the host, is an expert on Hollywood Studios. He comes across as the most likely to have an open opinion on WDW, but sometimes speaks so fast you can't actually understand what his opinion is. There is an older guy who comes across as a child hating grumpy mafia boss, very set in his ways, with an obsession with marathon running at WDW (yawwnnnn!!!). Next we have a really friendly laid back character, who has expert knowledge about all the audio and music used at WDW. Finally there is one female panel member, who seems to be actually the most knowledgeable, but often gets talked over. They also have guests quite often.
Lots of in jokes, but also lots of valuable information too. Sometimes though they are a bit flaky on the facts about things – and their latest info is only as good as how they last remembered it to be, rather than checking latest details.
On the whole a great show, great team of presenters, very enjoyable, very few better podcasts exist on this subject.
