Description

The CAMPAIGN podcast is an actual play podcast where a small, consistent group of Chicago nerds get together to record role-playing games. It is hosted by Kat Kuhl. CAMPAIGN focuses on long-form or “campaign” gaming. By this, we mean that each week, Kat leads a team of improvisers (James D’Amato, John Patrick Coan, and Johnny O’Mara) through a continuous story that could take months or even years to complete. CAMPAIGN is currently set in the Star Wars universe, and uses the Edge of the Empire gaming system.

Fun and compelling

The first campaign, set in the Star Wars universe is a wonderful collaborative story that gets funnier and more elaborate the deeper in you get. The great chemistry between the cast really comes across and it is positively infectious - One of the best actual plays around.
The new campaign “Sky Jacks” is shaping out to be distinct from the previous run but just as interesting and fun. The narrative style makes it super accessible and the emergent nature of the gameplay makes learning about this new world an absolute treat.

These ARE the droids you’re looking for!

From plot development and back story to recurring nemeses and ludicrous situations, this StarWars podcast hosts talented players, wonderful characters and an epic, if occasionally long suffering GM, piloting the crew of the Mynock through actual play.
A thoroughly entertaining, often hilarious, must listen show.
Trust me; these ARE the droids (and rebels and villains) you’ve been looking for!

I Love these guys!

I'm a massive Star Wars fan and I love these guys! I have been a listener for two years now, and this podcast is by far the most entertaining, viscreal and heart warming RP podcast around. If you're a fan of Star Wars Role play look no further than Campaign. James, Kat, Johnny and John have inspired me as a GM and always seem to bring a tear or a broad smile to my face. Thanks guys!

One of the best

After discovering this podcast late I binged on it until I caught up with the weekly updates. Not only does it sound like a great gaming system it also seems to open a window on a community of genuinely funny, warm and friendly players. I can't recommend it highly enough whether you're a fan or Star Wars, gaming or just want to listen in on a great group having fun and bringing everyone along with them.

Perfect podcast for those unacquainted with RPGs

Having known nothing about RPGs, but plenty about Star Wars, Campaign has been a perfect introduction to the incredibly creative and utterly hilarious potential of the format.
The actors are having a great time and so will you. Kat is a flexible yet detailed storyteller and I can't wait to see what will happen next having listened to 80 episodes in 3 weeks...
Thanks guys, long may you continue and I can't wait for Pepper's next case!

Star Wars Hilarity

A hugely entertaining podcast. You don't really need to be a fan of RPGs or even Star Wars to enjoy it (Though it probably helps...) and every single episode has moments of tears-in-the-eyes laughter which make it clear that the crew thoroughly enjoy making the podcast. The ocassional pure RP episodes where they, sometimes, completely fail to advance the story are absolute gold and result in many strange looks at work as I laugh out loud while listening on headphones in an otherwise silent office. If you only ever listen to one podcast, make it this one.

Excellent podcast!!

Brilliant podcast. Kat Kuhl's GMing is excellent, all the characters are engaging and really well played, each episode is littered with hilarious exchanges/bits, and it all adds up to a great ongoing story. On top of this, everyone involved comes across as a nice person in real life (with the possible exception of Johnny O'Mara, who may actually be pure evil...) and definitely a force for good in the universe!!

Possibly the best thing since sliced toast, and I love me some toast

I drive for a living and have done for the last five and a half years. So I listen to ALOT of podcasts. I've enjoyed and kept up to date with some, some I drop into and out of occasionally and some I've not enjoyed even thought they were highly recommanded.
I only heard about campaign about two months ago. Since starting the first episode I have stopped listening to all other podcasts, bar the weekly planet. I can honestly say I have never smiled so much to a podcast. It is genuinely like a good book that you cant put down. The characters are so enjoyable and the world so well paced that you just don't want to stop listening.
The first few episodes are a bit rules heavily with references to dice. If you don't play the table top game this is all a little lost on you, as it was me. However don't let that put you off.
I love star wars, when the new movies come out I genuinely turn into a kid again with excitement. But much as I love the movies I prefer this. This podcast has brought so much joy to my life (no hyperbole). I mean I totally get you wouldn't have this without the movies and you wouldn't love the background without them but I dare you to find more endearing characters in the main star wars world.
I cannot recommend this enough.

Perfect.

Beautiful actual play podcast, the host Kat Kuhl clearly loves Star Wars and that shines through every moment of these hilarious, exciting and occasionally heart-wrenchingly sad adventures of the crew of The Mynock.
The players all come from the Chicago improvisational comedy circuit, and bring these skills to the table, everyone says yes to pretty much everything and that leads to some wacky nonsense and making for some awesome and memorable moments. Listening to this show and trying to implement some of these things at my table has made my games nights about a thousand times better.
Listen to this Podcast, and let this ramshackle space family into your life, you won't regret it.

Filled with positively infectious joy

This podcast has been an utter delight to listen to.
What begins as an actual play of fantasy flights edge of the empire table top role playing game quickly evolves into a bizzare improvisational comedy show with a cast of characters more interested in telling the best story they can than “winning” the game. Listen as the motley crew of the Mynock gleefully hamstring themselves at every turn in the hopes of telling a more entertaining story. Some of the most entertaining moments coming when not a single dice or game mechanic came into play.
For two full hours the cast of characters did nothing more than sit around a coffee table carrying out an after action mission report and the result left me smiling so hard my cheeks hurt so you can well imagine the madness that in unleashed when they actually venture outside their 70’s dinner themed kitchen.
A loveable cast of demented rogues who would brighten the most wretched hive of scum and villainy.
Rarely have I encountered a broadcast where the performers joy and delight at what they are doing shone through so clearly. It is positively infectious and left me giggling and grinning from ear too ear.
If you have any love for starwars, improve or simply unadulterated silliness you should do yourself the favour of downloading and listening to this wonderful podcast.

I (don't) have a bad feeling about this

Having never heard of Campaign before, I was tentative at first but being an avid fan of both Star Wars and comedy (and more recently, RPGs) I have to say that listening to Kuhl and the gang has become part of my daily routine that I can't live without! It took a good 2/3 weeks to get up to date from episode 1 but what a journey!! 5* would DEFINITELY recommend!

A must-binge podcast

Having listened to about 31hrs of Campaign over the last week I can heartily recommend this warm, funny, play-by-play podcast. Managing to be professional, riotously funny, and faithful to the adventurous spirit of the Star Wars universe, Campaign never disappoints. Just remember to queue up a few episodes in advance, because you don't want to get stuck in traffic without the next one.

Absolutely brilliant!

I've been frantically catching up over the past week and oh my goodness what a great podcast. I can't praise it enough. Whether you're an avid RPG player or you just like Star Wars, listen to this podcast. Lots of humour, a brilliant story and a great cast of characters. What more could a Star Wars fan ask for?

Most of what I think and breath now

This podcast. Man. Not only has it gotten me through a mountain of horrific work, it also inspired me to start ("force my friends to start") our own campaign in the system. I love everything about the characters and stories these guys create and am now immensly sad to be caught up and having to wait for new episodes

Inspires me to get involved with RPGs :)

I've never played an RPG in my life, and seem to be about a year late to this podcast, but it's absolutely hilarious. I have to pause it every few minutes in order to avoid frightening and worrying other train passengers, or the other research students in my office, by laughing frequently and for no apparent reason.
I really want to find an roleplaying group now, in part thanks to this show.

Hilarious Characters and Hijinks

This podcast is great. I've learnt a lot from Kat's GMing style and the cast of characters and players are so much fun to listen it.
I was a little lost listening to the first couple of episodes because I had not listened to the prequel adventure that I believe the characters had in the One Shot podcast. However once I got to know the characters this podcast became one of my favourites. The plot is strange and weird at times but the characters are incredibly well acted, memorable and, most importantly, fun.
The only problem I have with the podcast now is that I've finished the backlog of 58 episodes plus side-episodes and I have to wait until the next episodes from now on!

Laugh out loud funny.

Recently had the joy of starting from scratch with this incredible podcast. I have listened to the entire back log in the past 2 weeks, and can I just say I feel closer and know more about these characters than I do about some of my closest friends. The general story focused narrative and that fact you all seem to be having an incredible time while crafting this story just takes it beyond a simple Star Wars based rpg romp. Brings a smile to my face even on the hard days. One incredibly satisfied fan. Keep up the good work.

Awesome

Been listening for about a year now - the cast are amazing and witty, and the stories run a delicate balancing act between emotional drama and utter slapstick.
I especially love Kat Kuhls GMing, which rolls with the punches. Off the cuff jokes become fleshed out characters a few episodes later. Kuhl and the rest of the players are fantastic raconteurs

Star Wars! Fun.

A beautiful long form companion to the short bites of rpg you get on one shot, campaign has real heart and emotion amidst debates about canon in Star Wars and constant comedy bits. Best in character squabbling in audio. And a wonderful hard working GM brings it all together. My favourite Pre new hope Star Wars since the original clone wars shorts.

Utterly Brilliant

It's Star Wars like you've never heard. A genuinely funny cast delves into the Edge of the Empire tabletop game with perfect results. Good quality audio and production. You'll immediately like the ragtag crew of their 'Falconesque' ship, the 'Mynock' and their adventures led by a knowledgable GM. My number one podcast. A mist listen for Star Wars fans and/or tabletop players.

The best actual play podcast I've heard

Campaign is fantastic. It's consistently engaging and always amusing. The characters are rich and ever-developing.
It's easy to tell the cast are enjoying the experience, which makes it all the more enjoyable.
On a technical side, the audio is superb. No bit-crushed voice, no awful sound effects thrown in poorly, and no music that's out of place or too loud in the mix.
Thanks Campaign team; it's a delight.

Fan-freaking-tastic

If you want to laugh yourself silly then join this cast of improv comedians, who are masterfully GM'd by Kat Murphy despite its similarities to herding cats, as they wander around the star wars universe causing devastation to friend and foe alike. I listened to most of this podcast while working in my front garden and as a result I suspect that my neighbors think I am insane from the amount of times I cracked up laughing.
My personal reputation aside the cast do devolve into fits of laughter quite regularly but you won't mind as you do as well.

Well run and played campaign

At the time of writing this I have actually not caught up-to-date with the podcast however I felt an urge to write just how enjoyable this podcast is. Kat is a really cool GM and the party is all wonderfully funny making every episode a guaranteed giggle-fit for me while still having plenty of sentimental moments that pull at the heart string - this is definitely what I think of when I think of playing a role playing game and it's very enjoyable to hear others do it so well.

I can read

I (space)ship this. Better production standards than any other live-play podcast I’ve heard and consistently touching, involving and really funny. If you are at all curious, interested or nostalgic for rpg's this is a JOY. Stellar entertainment from these improv’ing Chicagoland gamers. Make a brave and heroic decision to listen to it.

Fantastic Podcast Series!

This is a really first rate podcast series which combines excellent, natural comedy with strong production values and a really interesting slow burn plot plus a dynamic and hilarious cast of characters. The characters are played with a real sense of fun and its always nice to hear the cast having a genuinely good time. Kat Murphy and James D'Amato are warm and humourous hosts, as well as inventive and talented GMs whose passion for the material -both Star Wars and Role Playing Games- comes through every episode. If you have listened to the One Shot podcast series you'll be familiar with the high production values and their commitment to produce a professional -albeit whacky, charming and free flowing- product every week. I am really grateful to all the cast for the time and effort to put in to producing a high quality program every week!

Fantastic roleplaying

Even if you aren’t into the Star Wars universe or role-playing this is a great listen - all the players and the GM are quick witted and brilliantly funny - I’m sure people have been staring at me in my car as I laugh along. Great story they are weaving and I hope it runs and runs.
And Tony gets to stay for the ride. Because Tony is the real star.

Definitely not knucklebones and brown liquid

Such a good podcast
Firstly the audio quality is clean and clear, which makes it easy to listen to, including when people get excited etc..
However the real big one, the content
It really is 5 stars, all the players and GM are enthusiastic, they play characters not stats (often forgetting thier own stats haha) which makes for fantastic listening, occasionally Kat will explain a part of the system quickly that sparks interest and has made me buy the RPG even if I never bring it to the table
If you enjoy RPGs even if you're not a Star Wars buff, you will enjoy this and will pick up tips and tricks for your own games
No question
5 out of 5

Three Men and a little Jedi

Join the crew of the Mynock as they attempt to (in no specific order); come to terms with being surrogate father figures for a young and impressionable Jedi, get the plans for a "murder sphere" into rebel hands, tame a Vornskr (they've called it "Tony"), get off the planet Myrkr, do a little "Freelance Archeology", read terrible romance novels and try to find a Kimono that fits.
A RPG campaign podcast from the makers of One-Shot, using the Edge of Empire roleplay system with great players and GMs too.
