Up there with the finest TV shows ever made. Any historical inaccuracies are finely judged to keep the narrative moving, thereby allowing a very necessary tale to be told. Stellar performances from all. Gripping, stirring and heartbreaking in equal measure. Visually stunning and sonically on another level thanks to a glorious, Emmy winning soundtrack by Hildur Gudnadóttir. A magnificent series.

A must see

Absolutely brilliant show. Watched this each week it was on.

Very good but tainted by deliberately removing real people for a fake now

V good overall. But why add Emily Watson ???? There was no female scientist in the Chernobyl disaster. This character was actually several men, who were replaced with a woman - why - toxic feminists at the BBC.
Try to tell the truth for once BBC.

Chilling and emotional, and the actors were all superb. Very well done. And good to remind people of the horrors of Chernobyl. What we must remember is the animals too that suffered because of this disaster, wildlife and domestic, not just the people, we often forget that.

An epic must see that sends the bar into orbit

Whilst visually stunning and directed the series is deeply flawed by its historical inaccuracies which undermines the key events depicted.

Incredible.

Not being a Sky subscriber, I had to wait until this popped up to buy. Was it worth it? Without a doubt. It’s hard to say that you enjoyed a programme considering the content matter, but it engages you from the start. You care about these people and it’s terrible to admit that you sit there thinking dead, dead, dead. It truly deserves its five stars and if it doesn’t win a hatful of awards, we’ll, there isn’t any justice.

Brilliant must see TV

It’s a shame this is only 5 episodes as the tragedy of what unfolded could have been explained in even more detail.
However that does not take away from the brilliant telling of the accident, the excellent acting (Jared Harris is superb) and the overall production. A must see series ! Highly recommended - it will have you hooked after 10mins

An amazing series showing how scientists follow the right - rational thought even when the regime presures them. Thanks to all the scientists who helped in solving Chernobyl catastrophe.

Agree with other reviews, this is amazing and such a stunning example of the power of storytelling. Everything was brilliant, the actors, the cinematography, the atmosphere and the unfolding of the events - the terrible ordinariness of the day it happened and the pedestrian human fallibility that lead to an anihilating disaster. Nobody is completely to blame, no one can save the day. Secrets, lies, ideology - a faceless bureaucracy where everyone is scared and no-one is accountable. There's more than radiation poisoning eveything. Thanks HBO! Thanks iTunes!

The series will grip you from the start, hold you and put you through the wringer. It is a masterpiece of television that will stay with you long after the final credits.
It is a tribute to the thousands of men and women who sacrificed, suffered and were lost and an indictment of a flawed system that did not last much longer.
The line from it that stays with me: 'each lie is a debt to the truth'.

An absolute MUST see!

Fantastic series. Anyone who really enjoyed it, I recommend you watch a documentary called The Battle for Chernobyl. It adds to the tv series and shows you just how well they pulled it off.

The best.

Absolutely amazing. Scripted in England so the film is accessible and authentic enough to allow you to feel the emotions of what happened at Chernobyl.
Artistic license usually spoils film of historical events but this was tastefully done in recognition of the hero’s we never knew, heard or talked about.

Spectacular.

This has to be one of my favourites & the best mini series made in a long time by HBO.
Considering the Graphic nature & true devastation of the disaster in 1986 the storytelling in this show is remarkably accurate.
Just so pleased to see it now on iTunes. Bring on the bing watching.
Way to go HBO.
Thank you.

This is an amazing series, it’s an eye opener and leaves you with many questions as well as answers. Brave men, women and children copping behind the iron curtain.
