A Christmas favourite. I can’t fault the film itself, but a word of warning, the ITunes Store version has cropped the original 4:3 frame and it is also missing the intro from David Bowie. Hopefully Apple provide an updated version soon.

Film: *****
Transfer: **
Poorly encoded video that cannot faithfully display the beautiful pencil animation (artifacts everywhere), despite the source seeming to be in very good shape. It's also cropped from 4:3 to 16:9, so lots of information missing top and bottom (even the SD version).

Boring

why do people enjoy a poorly drawn non talking film.just a lot of annoying music playing to random grainy pictures with nothing really happening.so he builds a snowman that melts,so what? I wouldn’t watch it on tv for free and certainly wouldn’t pay for it.theres plenty of great Disney films out from the same time with beautiful animation and actual speaking so that means there’s a story to it.if I wanted to look at pictures I’d be into art and I hate art

Where is the Father Christmas version???

I love The Snowman but the poor image quality is extremely distracting. It looks like it's been 'sharpened' to look more HD, but all it's done is accentuated the poor transfer of an old film. Had I known it'd look this bad I'd have gone for the standard definition version instead.

Wonderful film, but £6.99 for 1/2 hour that is unacceptable!! I should have read the reviews before purchasing!! Very very disappointed with iTunes. Never again!!! iTunes you seriously need to credit people for this and review your pricing!!!

this animation evokes wonderful childhood memories - the music and animation combined is perfect. I am sad to see the David Bowie intro missing from this remastered version and the aspect ratio is wrong with strange framing, feeling very much like someone with a pair of scissors has simply chopped the top and bottom off what was an artistic masterpiece! :(

I'm not one to normally criticise iTunes pricing, as it is after all decided by the content producers themselves, but £7 for a 25 minute short film with no extras is crazy when Raymond Brigg's feature length animation When The Wind Blows is available for £5.
The only possible explanation for it can be that the producers believe that the Snowman will be in such high demand that they're trying to get as much out of people as they possibly can. As far as I'm concerned at 25 minutes it's "episode length" and therefore should be priced at £2.49

I always loved watch this film when I was young in 1980s at home and school. I found this film on Apple and love try it on my iPod Touch (4th) - perfect picture (don't worry about two black bars at top and bottom).

Too expensive apple!

Saw this when I was one of the little people, it is just so perfect and uncomplicated, and brings back so many great memories. My 3 year old son saw it for the first time last week, loved it, snow, flying snowman, Father Christmas, dancing, it has it all.
